Question

I post this message to let everyone aware of the situation on subaru servicing 1st yr you can take your scooby to a independent specialists like A W D Motorsport But 2nd & 3rd year you have to take it to a dealer and pay the price. This i think is unfair as we at A W D are more than capable to do the service to subaru standards,
( if not better )
And are fully equiped to do so
WHO WILL STAND UP WITH US TO CHALLANGE IM?

you may be able to carry out standard servicing which isn't hard but what happens when you need to refer to subaru books to trace wires or need a wiring diagram or special tools .
or if i said the air injector on my my01 wasn't supplying enough air would you be able to sort it out for me.
some things can only be done by a subaru technician.

Unhappy

These guys have all the subaru manuals / tools / select monitor etc.

Quite handy timing that the local Subaru garage went out of business

I wanted to get my 2 year service done here, over £100 cheaper than at the subaru dealers but unfortunately it does invalidate the warranty, and that is a risk I cannot afford to take.

The first year of the warranty is legally required and EU law states that you can get the servicing done wherever you like with no impact on the warranty.

Years 2 and 3 however are offered 'out of the goodness of IM's heart' and therefore they can put whatever restrictions they like on servicing requirements etc.

Mind you, once the warranty is over

Andrew.

I'm guessing this is because the first year is the standard scooby warranty which as long as the servicing is done to subaru standards and using approved parts etc they can't force you to use a subaru dealer.

However, as the 2nd and third year are through IM this is there way of trying to lock you into the dealer network and keep steady revenue for dealers.

As for Scoobyboys comments about trained subaru technicians, well i know of one respected subaru (non franchised establishment) that has at least one SUBARU TRAINED technician with approx ten years experience.

so are you saying we should all stop using this company scoobyboy ?

Makes me laugh this does, my father bought a new Mazda in Portugal, he asked about servicing and warranties etc.
and was told they only want to see the car once a year max for a major service, but all interim service he could take it wherever he wanted and they even gave him 5 oil/air filters towards his first five services ! all without invalidating the warranty.

im not saying don't use them but when a garage says they can service a scoob better than a franchised dealership it does annoy me a bit especialy as they will not be informed of any bullitins relating to specified faults and will not have all the relevent select moniter info to check out the car properly.

on the flip side, do you take your nice shiny turbo to a dealer that services a few turbo's, some small family hatches/saloons mainly etc.

Or someone that works on nothing but that kind of car all day long 5 days a week ?
And rather than just service it, they also make it go better

tis a double edged sword.

My current car's the first Turbo I've owned that's out of warranty. So far, I'm going to stick with the dealer (SG Petch Richmond, North Yorks), as they've been brilliant in the past. Not that I've needed much warranty work, but when I have it's always been done to a high standard. They're even sorting out a replacement CD Autochanger for me as the old one packed up a few months out of warranty.
