Changing your tyres?
#1
Hi guys.
For anyone planning to get new tyres... here's my view: Standard potenzas were fine tyres, wet and dry, but shot after 13,500 miles. Got some Toyos; reckon they're just as good; done 21,000 on them and they've still got more than 3mm left (rotation does help...).
Toyos are also a lot cheaper!
Can't comment on any others, but pound-for-pound they've been stonkingly good.

Now you tell me !
Just spent 460 on 4 new S.03's + tracking.
(at Micheldever who were very good. The tracking chap explained the why's and wherefores of bad tracking very well)
The inside of the 2 fronts were balder than me !
(which might be why I got a puncture on the M25 last night)
If I get another 17,500 miles out of the S02's - thats 2.5p/mile.

David Blows,
I'm not having a go here mate. I had standard Bridgestone RE010 on my Scooby from new. Got 12k from them and thought they were good.
Anyway, changed them for SO2, on advise from people on here. What a difference these tyres make, over the OEMs.
Please see my previous thread.

Currently on Bridgestone RE-011s, which came with a set of 7x17 wheels I bought recently, having used Bridgestone S-02PPs for the last five sets on my Legacy RS. The RE-011s don't inspire confidence. The ride is a lot harder than the S-02s, even though I'm running them at the recommended pressures and I used to run the S-02s at +2psi all round. Wet grip is disappointing and I had the back end step out on me in the wet last weekend which is the first time that's ever happened to me in a Subaru since the Impreza Turbo I had in 1994. Looking forward to trashing the RE-011s on a couple of track days so that I can get back to some decent tyres

Hi Babber,
No problem - that's what I love about the BB, sharing experiences and opinions.
I only have "originals" and Toyos to compare. bottom line is that, in performance terms, there's nothing in it.
So, my comparison was down to longevity and and price: and the Toyos won both hands down!
Interestingly, I now have originals back on (bought a spare set with alloys from someone upgrading) so it will be interesting to see how well they last.
Cheers

David Blows,
My 12k was mostly motorway driving with playing at the weekend. I thought 12k was terrible, but been told that's about right. Depends how much you push it.
Cheers to you mate
