Default Inside edge wear - legal?

Just looked at my tyres following the recent threads on tread wear. My fronts are worn on the insides - about 1/2 inch in - to nearly flat - in a patch about an inch wide. The rest of the tyre is fine...

Would they still be legal? What does the law state?

The legal limit is 1.6mm across 75% of the tyre I believe.

Ive always understood that as the middle 75% - but at the very least I would imagine it is a continuous, unbroken 75% (but that is just my understanding).

It sounds to me as if yours may not be legal, but I can't be sure....
