Question

My local dealer has assured me the MY'01 17"s will fit on a MY'00 or earlier, but I was wondering if anyone has done this yet?
If yes, do they fit OK?

Please advise, thanks, Alex

Alex,

I've seen people with MY01 wheels on the old shape cars. They had to change the tyres though as they are different sizes.

I think Stuart Knight has a set on his car.

Hope this helps
Andy

PS - Watch the road, not the top of your dash!!!

A dealer has told me the MY'01 will fit MY'00 or before as long as the tyres are changed to 205x45 from 215x45.

Apparently somebody else recommends 215x40 on these alloys.. alledged source of this info prodrive (but this could be a fib!).

I M CONFUSED, somebody help!!

Alex,

On 17" x 7" wheels, for the old car (>MY00) Prodrive would recommend 205/45R17 tyres (PZeros).

I use 215/40R17 tyres, which give a close enough rolling circumference, and a wider choice of tyres.

The standard 215/45R17 from the MY01, will give too high a rolling circumference on the older cars.

The next bit may sound patronising if you already know it, so apologies now!

The first number is the width of the tyre in millimetres, the second number is a percentage of the first number to give the height of the tyre wall. I think you know what the third number is!!

Hope this makes sense

Alex

Check the offset on the new wheels - I'm sure it's slightly different from that specified for the old shape cars can't remember by how much or which way though!

They'll fit the hub, but what the implications are re potential for rubbing/fouling - especially the rear arches - I don't know.

Someone with more info will be along in a minute!

Cheers,
Steve

Alex, the normal size used for 17" on the old model are:
215x40 for Toyos, S02, etc.
205x45 for Pirelli P-Zeros

I can see no reason why this should be different on MY01 alloys. So both should go on fine, the dealer will probably recommend the 205x40 option as they will want you to put Pirellis on.

It simply comes down to which manufacturers tyres are being fitted

Cheers all..

Andy T - I didn't actually cos I'm an ignorant git when it comes to cars... although learning fast after 'assisting' with the gauge pod install.. must remember to watch the road and not the gauges!

Thanks again everyone, looks like I've sold my old MY'00 wheels, and have a buy for MY'01 tyres... but not the wheels... not confirmed yet, so I'll update the thread in private when I know for sure!
