What is the correct tyre size for slicks?

Does anyone know what is the correct size slicks for 17" wheels on a 94WRX. I'm notsure on the slick size's.
Any recomendations on wheels and tyres also please.

Skip, this is a big question!
Slicks are measured differently to road tyres. For example, the biggest road tyres that you can fit on a Scoob is generally agreed to be 215/40x17.
In this case '40' is the aspect ratio, expessed as a percentage of width. Slicks ignore the aspect ratio and quote diameter instead. So in slick terminology, the above tyre becomes 215/604x17.
Unsurprisingly, nobody makes a slick in this exact size so it's a bit of a guessing game as to what you can get away with. And as Scoobs are so tight around the rear arches, suck it and see is the only guaranteed method. Wheel off-set is critical.
All I can say for sure is that Dunlop 210/620x17 fit my UK00 with ET50 off-set wheels (Dunlops). I believe that others have got away with 625mm diameter slicks (Pirelli).
The tyres I would like are Yoko A032-R 225/45x17. Competition compound, good for wet or dry, and road legal. Cost £150 + VAT, which is why I haven't got any, and they will also be a mega tight fit. I don't know if anyone has tried them yet. I aslo believe Michelin make a Scoob friendly-sized slick (try Demon Tweaks) but again you're looking at big money.
If you have the option of using 16in wheels, there are quite a few slicks available, new and part worn, in the right sizes.

Not given in to the temptation of the Yoko's yet then Richard!
When I find some wheels, I may get a set - I know they are a competition compound, but how long do you reckon they would last on track?

Hi Kryten. I gave up kart racing because it was too expensive, now track days in the Scoob are costing about as much!
No, I've not gone for the Yoko A032-Rs yet, mainly because I've got a set of part-worn PZeros to get through, and then some Yoko A520 road rubber (which I seem to recall Stef said were very good track tyres). And I've just bought one of those PD removable roll-cages, so skint.
I would guess that the AO32-Rs would wear quite well, say six track days at least, but that's only a guess based on experience with slicks which wear very well (no tread blocks squirming around). The A032-Rs are lightly treaded for a road tyre, in fact the tread looks very like the A520.
Has anyone else got experience of tyres like these?

Too right Richard and getting more expensive still as my pads are only lasting 3000 miles!!
How do you reckon the Yokos would compare to those slicks I borrowed? They were amazing
I've phoned a couple of places from motoring news but haven't found any slicks the right size yet
