To Grease, Or Not To Grease...
A mate of mine almost had a nasty one the other day in his Merc. He had the garage replace his front tyres and the next day drove from Kirkcaldy to Aberdeen, on the way experiencing serious steering judder, but thinking he may have lost a balancing weight or knackered a bearing. Anyway, on eventually having had enough and calling RAC, they jacked up the the front N/S and it virtually fell off. Most of the bolts were shorn, but being recessed in the alloys, this wasn't immediately obvious.
I always thought that you shouldn't lubricate wheel nuts, but he reckons that from now on he will be using copper slip as this should enable a more secure fitting. OK, maybe you might have trouble getting the wheel off in the event of a puncture, but surely this is preferrable to losing a wheel?
Can anyone enlighten me with their opinions?
Ta,

when your scoob goes to the dealers for a service , they put copperslip on your studs (not ur nutz).
so you can come to your own conclusion!
your mate's wheels were probably not tightened to there right tourqu setting.
