Question

Hi All,

I'm interested in replacing my standard STI V brakes with some performance disks and pads. One question I have is that when the brakes are replaced and the brake system is re-bled, is the ABS effected in anyway ? eg. does the ABS have to be re-bled or re-pressurised ? I'm getting rather a mixed bag of answers (mainly from non Subaru owning friends) on this subject.

I would appreciate any comments on this,

I didn't think STIs had ABS due to the nature of the centre diff and the water spray tank under the bonnet?

Or I may be wrong.

I bled my own brakes when I fitted my brembo kit, I had no problem whatsoever, and my car has ABS, so you should have no worries, (if you have ABS).

I thought that of the later Scoobs only the ones with adjustable centre diffs didn't have ABS, ie; RA's and TypeR's.

When you get a major sevice the brake fluid is replaced by the garage and all they do is bleed the system until all the old fluid is flushed through.

One thing I would suggest is that you get good fluid and braided hoses. They will complement your new disks/pads.

Thank you all for your helpful comments.
Worry over !

I'm pretty sure I have ABS as when we had snow a few weeks ago (giving the Scooby a bit of fun, as you do), when braking, you could hear thump, thump, thump (something like that) as the ABS was kicking in.......also there is a aluminium type unit near the brake cylinder, all connected up with various brake lines, so I presume this is the ABS control unit.

Question: When I change the discs I'll get the brake hoses done as well. Are there only 4 hoses to change (one for each wheel) ??

Many thanks everyone.

You are correct in your identification of the ABS control unit, sorry for doubting you, I was obviously wrong.

Yes, there is only 1 hose per corner.
