I've just today bought some front brake pads for the Scoobie from Halfords, FERODO FDB948, thats what was listed for Impreza Turbos 1994 - on

Now, I am sat here wondering whether the pads are the same for the 4 pot as they are for the earlier models??

I assume the pads could be the same but the MY00 - 4 pots just have an extra 2 pistons?

Anyone know without me getting the old pads out and finding out that way?

Almost certainly the wrong ones Pete, the early ones are totally different, Sorry!
Mind you, they'll exchange them surely!!

 

Oh, Bollox!! That was early morning job to do! They obviously don't do the later MY00 - on then!

I have had a look at the FERODO website to get a part number - its totally crap isn't it? No info like that at all!

off the top of my head FCP948 is for the early 2pot cars..............FCP986 is for the 4pots!!

From what I've just found Pete, it looks like you need the FDP1327 for 09/98->

only found that by looking in the uprated pad section, the pad no's are usually the same, but with a different code!!


edited to add, if you have a look, you can even check the pad shape!!

Yes it was Pete, the pad no I gave was wrong, Alyn's right, although it's listed as a Nissan pad!!

The early cars had 2 pistons on one side of the flaoting calliper - the later cars have 2 pistons outboard and 2 inboard and NO floating calliper?

You are correct, Nissan 300 zx is what they are listed as to fit the 4 pots.

Thanks all ...... now, anyone know where the cheapest brake pads are?

Remember, I don't need, or desire, pink stuff - brown stuff - green stuff or red stuff ....................... my pads have now covered 49,000miles and still not squealing! So, any bog standard black pads would fit the bill nicely!

Under £30 should satisfy me, yes?

Its a strange thing, but the discs seem to be more worn than the pads!

They can only go from 24mm thick down to 22mm thick and then need changing - I normally change the discs every two sets of pads ...... but that will place the discs at 100,000miles (surely too long?)

When I learnt how to drive I was taught to anticipate ahead, braking was considered to be a failure ..... I still drive the same to this day - the gearbox and engine do the braking not the brakes

So, cheapest (Quality) pads? The challenge is to beat £30! Anyone man enough?

I was told the engine and gearbox did the braking when I learnt to drive, but found over the years that it's much easier and cheaper to change the discs and pads than the clutch.

 

Hmmmmmm, not sure about cheaper? New brake discs and pads are what? £250 and fit them yourself? - do that every, what? 20,000miles? so, at 100,000miles its cost you £1250.

Whereas, my gentle way, you get to replace pads at £40 on 50,000miles and discs on, what? 100,000miles? - so, at 100,000miles it will cost me about £300 in braking gear.

About a £1000 saving ...... I have no intention of my clutch giving up much before the standard 100,000miles I get out of them.

**** orf Pete. £250 for brake discs? They're £37 each where I buy them. I'll sell you some for £240 though if you want to make a saving.

 

If you took more care reading what was written you would see that I allowed £250 for Discs AND Pads!!
