Default time for new brakes ?

my brakes (standard 2pots) seem to be fading quite a bit when breaking at speed, the discs look ok & there is still some life in the pads too... but i was thinking of upgrading them..

any recomendations ?

EBC
mintex
ferodo
?

thanks

Find 4 pots from a later model. The 2 pots are really bad for fading. You should pay about £350 for them 2nd hand.

had thought about that, but i don`t plan on keeping the car that long, was wondering if there is anyway of improving what i already have.. but if thats just how they are, then i suppose i will have to stop ragging it around on country lanes..

thanks..

exactly what sort of "fade" are you exeriencing??
if you wish to sort your 2pots then it is feasible (though with the same mods on 4pots obviously they are better!!)

when slowing from highish speeds the brakes feel a bit crap.. feels like they are heating up really quick and losing performance.. feel of the brakes is fine..

what are we talking ? new pads and discs, or something altogether more sneaky ??

you are experiencing "Material Fade" by the way you describe it..............basically overcoming the temp. the pads/ discs can withstand.....................
you can cure it (to a degree) by improving the components in the system- the main one being pads!!
dependant on your budget (and use) there are a number of options, most of which will be cheaper than 4pots (which appears to be your intention).the choice is yours!!

dot5.1 fluid is (generally) v.good but is no guarantee of a 'performance' upgrade merely an indication of how hydroscopic the fluid is..................the higher the number the less moisture it will attract!! you need to check the temp. ability of the fluid to give a better guide (as an example a lot of "racing" fluids are ONLY dot4 or sometimes not rated at all due to their inability to repel moisture over long periods, but in a competition system it is normally 'flushed' before every outing!!)

our normal recomend is something like ds2500 for fast road use in this application, but there are any number of other options dependant on your budget, etc................
