Bridgestone S02s
#1
I've just bought a 1999WRX which I must say is fantastic, but it needs 4 tyres. I've ordered Bridgestone S02's but am no expert. Does anyone know if that's a good choice?

TIM WRX
It seems to be a popular choice.
I've bought a set of S02's as well, though they're not on the car yet (they're standing in my kitchen ( - don't ask!))
I'll probably get them fitted this weekend/early next week.
I'll post again with first impressions though IIRC they take a few miles to bed in.

Tim, i take it we are talking 215/40/17??? best thing ive ever done to my scoob (my00) but they do take some running in, too much pressure in the tyres too will give you oversteer, am currently running 32 front and 30 rear, very good in the wet thou lots of fun to be had!

I'm currently on my 5th set of S-02s - 2 sets of 205/50VR16s on my previous Legacy 4CAM; 3 sets of 215/45ZR17s on my current Legacy RS. I get between 16k and 20k miles per set, dependent on the number of track days(!), and I think they're excellent. You'll not be disappointed, but be prepared to run them in for anything up to 1000 miles before they reach peak performance.

Gary may be it's being down south, but when I got a screw in one of my tyre walls, the prices I got weren't that cheap!!
Every where within 15 miles wanted £150 for a 17" tyre. The cheapest I found was Micheldever when they quoted £135.
I guess a better price can be had when buying four tyres rather than one!!
I think Sunil and Danny Fisher were boasting some incredibly cheap prices!!??!

You must have misread that - it's just Sunil and Danny boasting. Full stop.
Regarding Tim's original post - SO2s do seem the way to go - hopefully have a set on my car very soon.

Okay.
I've done about 60 miles on the new S02's I had fitted on Saturday.
They seem to have transformed the car!
- Much less tramlining (though I have a question about this which I will put in a separate thread '16" OEM tyre tramlining')
- Car seems to be far more settled at any speed.
- Quieter
- Much more grip/less understeer (though I understand they won't be fully run in for another few hundred miles.)

Dave they can't be kosher, as they're Bridgeston, and not Bridgestones!!!
Yes they are prefectly legal! Someone owned someone a favour, and I get a good deal!!!
Thanks

I am running 16 inch S02's on my MY98. I got through two sets of standard RE010, the first 10,000 the second 7000. These are only half worn and have done 9000! The transformation was increadable. The wet weather handling especially. I think they are wearing less because they spend less time sliding sideways!!!

Get yourself down to Tyres Northampton ASAP!
They had a new big pile of them waiting for some lucky people while I was there on Saturday. They'll give you a good price and know thier onions from thier RE010s.
Can't go wrong really if you can mange the journey to them from 'down south'.
