Suggestions for replacement pads and disks (perhaps)
#1
hi,
I currently have a 94 WRX and it looks like I need a new pair of rear pads.
What do you guys suggest?
Part of me thinks it may be worth getting new disks and pads all-round, if I did this I would like drilled + grooved disks, are the black diamond ones any good?
Also... I have P1 4-pots on the front, would it be straightforward to fit bigger disks to the front?
ta,
Matt.

I've just fitted a set of drilled Black Diamond discs for the front, and they're pretty good. Also using Mintex 1155s which are very good VFM and provide excellent stopping power, if a little dusty. This set don't even squeak !
If you're on 4 pot calipers (ie. P1), I'm pretty sure you'll be stuck with the same size discs and cannot go up - the calipers won't clear the discs, unless of course you go for big-time APs or Brembos.
For a budget upgrade, go for a Black Diamond/Mintex setup, speak to Falkland Performance, who are probably cheapest and offer discount to Club Members as well.
If you haven't already done so, invest in braided steel lines, DOT5 fluid, and perhaps the brake support bracket to counteract the bulkhead flexing.

I've just had "Black Diamond Combi Discs" fitted to the front of MY95 WRX and I'm very happy with the improved braking. I'm still running on my original pads as the courier didn't deliver them in time, will be getting the Mintex 1144's fitted in the next few days.
I'm also tempted to go for some braided steel lines, I think I saw them for £59.99 at Revolution.

Correction to the previous price I quoted for "braided Steel lines", just been talking to Revolutions this morning and they're £44.99.
I think I'll be tempted to add them as well, but don't tell her indoors..

I wouldn't go with drilled disc's IMHO, it has been said that they weaken the actual disc because the drilled process is done after the disc has been made.
"I could be wrong!!"
( maybe someone could clarify this )
I would stick to grooved discs, personally.
Muddy.

Hi ndouglass
I need to replace my front disk & pads soon. I have been told that Black Diamond will make a big difference to the braking. Are there different types u get for a scooby or is there only one type ???.
Did you get those Mintex 1144's fitted, if so what r they like any good ???
Any thoughts on weather u should have gone for grooved instead of drilled disc's IMHO ???
