I know a few people who have the 6-pot AP Racing brakes under the standard 17" P1 wheels.
I also know of one car that had the 18" wheels and the AP Racing 6-pot brakes, athough it wasn't a P1, just a UK car.
Hope this helps

All Prodrive brake kits supplied at the moment will not suffer the 'problems' that a small number of people have experienced as the pad specification has changed.

Every customer wants something different from any parts he buys. The brake conversion was aimed at the customer that wants the absolute ultimate performance because that's what the market told us it wanted. If you ask for the ultimate in performance, inevitably there is a cost to be paid in other areas as part of the compromise.
As some customers are not prepared to live with this compromise we now offer the kit with a pad that they would feel comfotable with.
Out of interest, do you have one of our brake kits fitted to your car?

I'm sorry if this sounds out of order, but DS3000 pads should NOT be used on the roads. They take too long to warm up. As for the point about 'customer that wants the absolute ultimate performance' fine. I userstand that.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one Danny as good cold bite is a feature of DS3000 when used with our brake kit due to the very high co-efficient of friction.
Have you tried an Impreza with our brake kit fitted using DS3000 pads?

Mike, I have been in a P1 with the Alcon kit, and felt that the standard AP kit had better braking ability. I have yet to ride in a car using the Alcon kit with the DS2000 pads.

Nice to see you back.
Danny.
With all due respect, did you drive the Alcon equipped car? It's a bit unfair maiking a comparison if you're using an experience as a passenger, as I'm sure there are people with AP's that don't use them to their full potential. I have used DS3000's in my AP's and their performance on track was better than anything I have ever used, but they simply wore the disc too much. On the road they also worked fine from cold.

I have just got 18in wheels put on my P1 and I am going to have the Prodrive brakes put on.
The main reason is that I want to keep it a Prodrive car and the brakes look so much better than APs.Also the resale of the car must be better with the Prodrive name on the upgrades. Also Prodrive are the Scooby kings and thats good enough for me.

Without dragging this thread even further away from the original point....
The brakes you mention aren't Propdrives own, they are manufactured by Alcon.
The Prodrive prepared WRC cars have seen most (if not all) of their success using AP Racing brakes.
Even the car current (not the brand new one), Prodrive prepared Subaru WRC used in the Safari Rally which was at the recent Autosport show was wearing AP brakes front and rear, (<I>despite the Alcon sponsor/advertising stickers on the car</I>).
Davy is as he stated getting AP 6 pots, his question is answered and I'm sure he has made the right choice.
Danny.
I will see if I can dig out the dyno plot results for DS 3000's if it's of any interest to you?
Mike.

I've been a bit busy with the Autosport Show and several meetings last week
Mike
The brake kit is indeed manufactured by Alcon.... to a specification we jointly developed, as are the brakes on the 2000 and 2001 WRC cars.
The Safari cars were in 2000 were actually 1999 cars as the new car was introduced in Portugal, which Richard won.

I recently went through the Prodrive/AP brake debate, and decided on the AP kit which is being fitted in Feb.
I have to say that the AP's respond much better than the Prodrive kit, and drove P1's with the kits fitted. As for looks, the Prodrive kit doesn't look as nice as it does in the brochure!! In the brochure it looks chrome(great selling point) in reality a kind of duff faded creamy colour!!

Why does ProDrive get such a hard time around here? Without them, Imprezas would be nowhere! Credit where credit is due. And a bit of respect wouldn't be out of place, either.
ProDrive's 'mistake' with DS3000s is that people complained about the barely adequate standard stoppers, so they went to the other extreme with the best combo you can buy. Truly fabulous brakes, but made a mess of your pretty wheels when used to the full.
You can't have it all ways, and every upside has a downside. Now, haven't ProDrive sorted people's problems with the DS2000 alternative? Whenever I've had cause to complain (sagging suspension), ProDrive's response has been swift, no quibbles, problem sorted. I wish more suppliers were like that.
DS2000s are my favourite 'all purpose' pad. But I'll be sticking DS3000s in for track days (they are VERY powerful pads) when performance is key. Much cheaper than a 6-pot upgrade...

Guys,
I've got the Prodrive brake kit and have used both DS3000 and DS2000 pads now.
If you see the Ferodo website, the DS3000's have the flattest co-efficent of friction / temperature graph you'll ever see. Barely any difference between cold and hot.
In my opinion, from here in the corner Stef , the Prodrive does look better. Also, all of the previous problems are cured. This I know from experience.
Anyway, back to original quesion.......you'll have plenty of room under the rims for whatever brakes you choose.
