Just checked the tread depth on my 8 month old Scoob tyres expecting them to be about ready for swapping round, and found the fronts to be down to 3mm and the rears 4mm. AFTER 7500 MILES normal driving and no trackdays!!
I thought the standard fit RE010's were supposed to last ages (I've heard 15-20000 mentioned on here).
I had the tracking checked a month or so ago and it was a long way out, could this be the cause? They seem to have worn fairly evenly across the tread though.
Anyone care to comment?

Hi Pete
I swaped mine f-r after about 4k, and they all needed replacing after just 9500 mls, I too was a bit amazed as I had not done track days etc. But deciced that if you have a quick car, you end up paying for it in one way or another, ie if you go round bends quicker than on another vehicle on the same tyres then you gonna wear them out faster than if they were on an xr2 or similar.
It doesn't help though does it!
Happy hunting

Mine have done 13.5k and are still going strong - expecting at least 18k out of them.

Must not be going fast enough...

I should not worry about it, the RE010s are crap and you will be glad when you have changed them anyway.

Pete

I've done just over 16K in my MY00 using the standard Bridgestones. Two tyres are now worn out (they were the fronts, but swapped to the back). Did experience some uneven tyre wear at the front, but this was down to the tracking being out, which was fixed at the 15K service. Mate at work, who drives a 5 door MY98 found similar uneven wear on his 16" SO2s.

I'm going to be upgrading to S02 PPs, possibly 17" if I can find a nice set of alloys. As Brendan says, don't worry, you'll be pleased to change them. I driven cars using the S02s and they are a big improvement.

Cheers

Chris

Pete T,

I've just changed my tyres (RE010s) on my MY2000 after 7000 miles.

I've had three sets of RE010s and have got similar mileage from each.

I've just put another set of RE010s on. I might try SO2s next time - anyone know how hard wearing these are compared with RE010s?

Cheers,

Ian.

Cool

Hiyas all

I've got an MY 98 sitting on 16" Bridgestone SO2's. The car sat for about 2 years before I bought it and the tyres have been fine.

The car's got about 13000 miles on it now and they've held up well. No uneven wear, decent grip and they've been given a huge caning...... (140mph+ consistently along the good ol' German autobahns.....

i've done 17,000 miles on the standard RE010's (MY99) and down to 2mm front, 3mm back. Now looking to replace but unsure whether to go for 17" now or not bother.

jon,
I'm staggered, how can you get 10000 miles more than me from the same tyres on the same car? Does anyone know what causes such a variance in wear? I don't drive like a boy racer (much!) but most of my mileage is on twisty A and B roads rather than motorways. Would this explain the difference or was it my dodgy tracking (I hope!!) or perhaps my tyres were from a duff batch.
My main worry is that if RE010's last 7500 miles then a softer? compound like SO2's will be shagged in 5000 and that's a major expense!!

What happen on my MY99 car, and on a friends was that the wheel alignment was out, and it trashed the tyres in about 8-10k!!!

Get the wheel alignment checked first!! It may also be a good time to move to Prodrive settings.

If you are in the Hampshire area, it may be worth going to either Mill Lane Engineering in Basingstoke, or Micheldever Tyres in Micheldever.

Mill Lane are the Subaru dealers in Basingstoke, and Charles Figgins the Service Manager is a good man and know his stuff. They have all the equipment there to either put it right, or give you Prodrive settings. You can get hold of them on 01256-780790.

I don't work for either, but have been happy with the service from both!

I got 14,000 miles out of RE010s and 16,000 miles (so far) out of PZeros, but the RE010s were looking shagged after 4,000 miles!

Wink

I am now on my 3rd set of 16" S02 PP's. The first 2 sets have lasted 20k and 22k miles. I have swapped front to back after 10k miles due to uneven wear on the front tyres. This is in Scotland on a mixture of dual carriageway, A roads and B roads.

During track days at Knockhill I have observed about 1mm wear per 40 miles! So enthusiastic cornering, which results in some sideslip really ***** out tyres very quickly. Those of you who are experiencing premature tyre wear are perhaps allowing your enthusiasm to get the better of you at all those roundabouts

Cool

The standard tyres lasted 4.5k miles, were down to around 2mm front, 2.5mm rear and seriously lacking in grip in the wet. No track days, but a fair few miles in the north of Scotland
(mind you I never saw more than 7k from the front tyres on my VTR, so not really too much of a surprise)
