P1 alloys vs. Mims
#2
Both are nice wheels. I saw the anthracite MIM's recently at Scoobysport
On a practical point, the MIM's will be easier to clean, as they have a gloss finish.
The P1 OZ wheels have a matt / teflon like finish, althoug it seems very tough. Also the design of the wheels dosn't lend itself to being cleaned easily.
Go on.....give Scoobysport a ring.

Mims have 45mm off-set, Prodrive wheels 52mm. Standard Scoob is 53mm. Fit the Mims and your car will feel distinctly different, and may foul the arches. No contest in my view.
Anyone care to argue the vitues of the wider 45mm off-set? Pete C?

Hoppy,
I had my wheels changed from 17" Gold Speedline Chronos (aka Superturismos) ET55 to 17" Anthracite MIM Brescias (ET45) using the same Toyo 215/40 R17 tyres, a fortnight ago.
The car does not feel any different and does not rub anywhere.
Incidentally, I was outside our local Honda dealer yesterday (girlfriend taking her car in for a service) when one of the employees came up to me and said "Nice car - you should put gold wheels on it...."
The answer cannot be repeated!
Thanks
Gavin

I have a set of 17" Mims on at the moment. They do rub the arches on all fast bends even without passengers. On the dip at Brands I thought the wheels would pop the noise they made. They are coming off on Fri and being replaced with a set of P1 wheels. The Alcon Prodrive brakes have done the 172 Mims no favours the brake dust is baked on, and spining the wheels at Brands to get out of the gravel has not help much either

Unable to confirm but there is another post about this issue titled rubbing noise recently as it appears that a number of Scoobs with MIM wheels myself included are experiencing the rubbing noise.
Someone mentioned that the Subaru dealer MIM stock are ET52

Can anyone confirm if the Mim Brescias that Subaru now officially source are ET45 or ET52? All this talk of rubbing against the wheel arches is definately puttin me off the Mims.

Simon,
So you have driven the same car for eighteen months (35K miles), driven sixty miles to the wheel supplier on the existing set of (Prodrive) wheels and tyres, changed them, driven sixty miles back on the new (MIM)wheels and same tyres - on the same car ?
Thanks
Gavin

Nigel253, fellow P'boro Scoob. Mine's a silver four door, V-reg. SIDC sticker middle of windscreen. There a few other silver cars around, plus a couple of wagons and a P1. What colour are you?

Surely, a manufacturer spends considerable time developing suspension location points expecting the load to be applied at a pretty exact area?
Changing offset means deviating from this..... Load is applied differently, lever forces are different, etc., etc. So there's got to be a change in handling.
Notice that Simon didn't say it would be worse! Although I'd say it would be!
I've only fitted different offset wheels to one car - in a desperate attempt to make an XR3i ( !) handle like the earlier Escorts. Out of the frying pan into the fire......

Simon is right here. I just changed my 17" Mims/S02's for a set of 17"P1's with P-zero's
the car now feels like its on rails and the skittish rear end has now disapeared.

was that because your Mims had the 45 offset? I am still waiting for confirmation that the Mims from Subaru are a 52 offset and therefore shouldn't be a problem.

Peter, Mike Wood of Prodrive has already posted elsewhere that the IM Mims are the correct Subaru offset. Speak to Jim at Cheam Subaru on 020-8394-2263

This wheel is available from Subaru Dealers in ET52 which will not give this problem.

I did see that post and am also speaking to Jim - the one's he can get for me at a reasonable price are direct from Mims so will be ET45.
Still deciding! He still has a set of P1 wheels with tyres for the same price (but 2000 miles of wear).
Cheers

Well, 50/50, ask the audience or phone a friend?
As you have expressed so much concern over the offsets, it would probably be wiser to sheel out the extra dough and get the approved offset.

The problem was I asked the audience and they were split!!!!
Nothing like sewing the seed of doubt!!!!
Will speak to Jim further on the subject.
