Question

Hi All,

Salsa-King's pc is down so I'm posting this on his behalf. Post tiltle a little wrong as it should have read less than £500 brake upgrade, my fault sorry

Well after reading ALL the posts on brake pads/grooved/std disc'!!!!

I am no further forward in what I go for!!
MY97 turbo

So am I going to go for the Mintex 1155, and stay with standard disc's?

Change to a grooved as well so i feel the difference? which now then ? Tarox? G-Force?

Do I change my brake fluid to 5.1 dot?

What about the brake lines do I change to S/Steel? What will this cost me £250?

Can a person reply that is in the real word of money earnings, don't want mega brake upgrade yet.

I don't want to put pads on and they wreck the std disc or wear the pads out after one track day!

please help.

salsa-king

G force drilled and grooved with sport 2000 fast road pads had these on my last car an RS 2000. Good stopping power but the pads destroyed the discs in no time. So they would be fu--ed in no time on a scoob. Graham.

Salsa

Check out the updated Scoobysport brakes page. We've been busy doing some work with Pagid and have solutions that might interest you.

I'm selling some Subaru 4 pots. I want about £275.

If you are more interested in going (stopping) fast than looking good then you need to concentrate on getting the heat away from the disk face, as this causes pad fad that is the main problem on Subarus. The standard disks (being straight vained) are pretty crap, but experimenting with duck tape and ally sheet can get air to the middle of the disk, which helps a lot, the biggest problem is the damm drive shaft.

In my experience the great gains people experience with say an AP upgrade come from the vastly better curved vain disks and not the good looking calipers, (although the better pads that are available are a big help)

Had the Scobby sport upgrade.
Grooved discs all round and Pagid pads.
Braided lines
Very good on the track, very little fade at Snetterton even after 12 laps.

Road use very little difference, althoug the pads are a littel noiser than standard for light braking.

Car is 2 pot fronts with 17 " wheels

Whatever you do DON'T take option one.
I did one trackday at Donno with std discs/mintex 1155 and the pads were literally smoking after 5 laps, burned off all the resin. Not up to the job IMHO.

Wink

Docjock,

If you are right and as I am one of Phils official passengers would it be possible to give me a lift from the gravel trap back to the pits .

Phil,

No problem posting for you, went for a little blast after our meet on Sunday then had to suffer two hours of grief for going out for on hour and making it four.
