Question

I am after a set of Silver multi spoked 17" Wheels for my Scoob, Fancied OZ Super T's but they only come in Gold with the correct off-set or the Radius R3's. What else is good, bad, etc ? After that it will be "What tyres" but I think that subject has been done to death a few times already.

The only downside with the Super Ts are keeping them clean!

Andy
I had the very same ponderance (is that a real word?) recently, cos super T's are super spankin but gold just aint my bag baby. Anyway I opted for radius R3's 18" and even if I say so myself, my motor looks rather dashing. Got pics if you want em flower.

Andy

I was just about to post a similar message.
I fancied the Oz Super Ts and didn't realise they didn't come in silver for a scoob.

The next best thing that I am looking at are the Mims which are supplied by Scoobysport and now Subaru have started doing them directly. They come in gold, silver or anthracite.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers
Peter

The only drawback I see visually with a 17" wheel of a fairly "open" design is that they make the standard caliper/disc combination look very small/feable.

ST2's with Prodrive/Alcon kit looks great !!

Steve, That was my next thought If I go for the MIM's from Scoobysport I am sure Mr Croney can sort the brakes out as well. I think I live too close to Basildon and the urge to spend cash on the Scoob is very tempting.

Not a true multispoke wheel but the Prodrive PD7s look really smart in silver (7 spokes).

I had the same dilema OZ/MIM. Although they are both very similar MIM are £120 a corner from Scoobysport. Cheaper than OZ.

Andy, had the same dilemma and ended up with Radius R3 wheels. A bit pricey but good quality, 50mm off-set, and they look goyjus. I can also confirm they will clear all the brake upgrade kits I'm aware of, including the mighty AP 6-pot conversion.

Other choices are the Stilauto illustrated above. Lovely looking (though I can't make up my mind if the anthracite ones are beautiful or tarty!), good price and will also clear all brake upgrades. Scoobymania sell 'em, but so do Tyres Northampton and they do a special deal with Toyo tyres, I think. Can't remember the price but if you do a search on here you should pick up the thread. ET is 48mm.

The Mim Scoobysport wheels are also fine looking multispokes, well priced but the off-set is a wide 45mm. I dunno about brake clearance but I can't believe they won't fit over even the biggest calipers. Call Scoobysport to confirm.

On the subject of off-set, there is divided opinion. Standard wheels are 53mm, Prodrive recommend 52mm, but others say 48mm or even 45mm does not only fit but gives preferable handling. See the SIDC site.

If you decide to stray away from the recommended off-set, watch out for fouling the wheel arches. But I can confirm that the Radius R3s are fine on my MY00 UK car, even with wider than standard 215 tyres and lowered Prodrive suspension.

Tyres. Always a good subject for debate but the overwhelming preference seems to be for the Bridgestone SO2-PP. I switched from 205/45-17 Pirelli P-Zeros to 215/40-17 Bridgestones and they are indeed fabulous in the wet. Toyos are also very well regarded and cheaper.

You could try Rimstocks they now make 17 in 50 or 45 offsets and are cheaper than OZ's or speedline. try Micheldever tyres in Winchester for a good deal recently quoted me £780 foe 4 x 17 Monza's with 215/45 x 17 F1's

Tyres Northants fitted a set of 17" Silver/Anthracite two-tone Stilautos + Toyos for £820 all-in.

I have no affiliation with Tyres Northants.. other than have had great service from them in the past.

Thanks to one and all for the info, I am going to try and stay with an ET50 off-set. So this rules out a few of the options, I was surprised that the Scoobysport wheels were only ET45. As for tyres S02's look like the best option but 205's or 215's and what pressures. Am going to my local dealer Rochford Tyres as he quoted me £96 per corner +vat etc for 215/40 - 17 S02's. Will let you know how I get on.

I was thinking of fitting the radius R3s but doing a search I came across a post that suggested they were easily damaged, see

Cool

I have been getting quotes for the R3's and these are the best prices so far.

Radius R3 - 17" - 215/40/17 Bridgestone SO-2 - £1149.00
Radius R3 - 17" - 215/40/17 Toyo T1-S - £940.00

Prices include fitting and balancing - a set of lock nuts and either free
fitting on site or free delivery to mainland uk.
From sales@revolution-motorstore.co.uk

Not sure if the S02's are PP's though. Any one out there know of a better deal ?

Thumbs down

It was me that buckled 2 R3's - no idea if it was a lack of quality on their part as I haven't had a go at the same speed on that stretch of road with my new wheels (Speedline GT1's), but they bent enough that at motorway speed they started to shake the dash loose !.

Andy - have you looked at the Raceline RL7's good looking and supposedly very strong, motorsport quality wheels.

The guy across the road from me has a MY95 WRX with Radius R3's (17") and he has had to replace two wheels in the space of a year.

Chris, you're not the only one....

Thanks

Help anyone ?!

I've been thinking of changing the 16" standard gold wheels on my sti5 recently.

Quite like the idea of those OZ Super T's in Gold. Problem is I haven't seen them yet. :-( My local dealer can get them, but have no pic. Does anyone have a Pic of the 17" OZ SuperTurismo's in Gold.

Thanks...

Merlin,

Thanks for that. Just what I was looking for.

You mention he has gone for the 215/40/17 option.. Any problems with wheels rubbing?, Offsets ?

Thanks,

SonicB
