Had my first experience of Brake fade on the Subaru last weekend. I can't remember what discs & pads are fitted, reasonably sure they are Mintex pads/discs front with standard rear setup.

As much as I would love to put a set of AP or Brembo's on the car i'm after a more affordable solution.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to improve my STi3.

Cheers, Simon.

I have Mintex 1155 pads on Bremsport grooved discs, and have never had any fade on or off track.

Set-up cost me less than £200.

Changing the fluid should help as well.

I've got Mintex 1155's with Scoobysport disks, DOT 5.1 fluid and Goodridge lines - no fade on the road - not tried a track.

Thumbs up

Before I got my APs I had prodrive pads all round and no problem stopping. Having said that I did not do any track days but do drive enthusiastically

Goodridge hoses,
Brake support bracket and AP racing dot 5.1 fluid.

Thanks for the advice guys.

It's in for a service soon at CK in Manchester. Peter fitted the Discs and pads last service 45k, now at 52k. I think the pads were 1144's so if Peter thinks the discs are still OK, in go the 1155's and I will try some new discs next time.

Cheers, Simon.

Ive had Mintex 1155 on my Tarox G88 disks for a while now and just replaced them and the fluid with DOT4 (its all Kwik Fit had ). For the first time Ive had brake fade and badly. Now these new pads coincided with a Unichip so my question is this, are they fading because Im going quicker or because theyre knacked or the fluid is crap??

Suggestions welcome, thanks

Richie

Used the Pagid pads and these are a mile better than the Mintex.

In my opinion

Chambjj - interested in that, you are the only person I have come across that has experience of both (I assume you have to make a statement like that ) to say they found much difference? It what way are the Pagids *a mile* better than the 1155s?

Gary,
I fully agree with Chambjj.
I have used the Mintex 1155 Pads on my tuned MY98 and completely destroyed them on a trackday on the (very tuff on the brakes) circuit of Zolder, Belgium.
After really pushing the car the brakes started fading like crazy (new brakefluid, stainless brakelines)and I had to slow down as the brakes were failing.
When I inspected the brakepads, they had parts broken away at the edges of the brakematerial and had several full cracks through the brakematerial, this looked like they would have come apart at any moment, had I not stopped.
Now on my tuned MY2000 I have the Pagid Blue brakepads, and they are soo much better.
More stopping power and they haven't failed me yet on the track, HIGHLY recommended!!!

The Mintex where fine on the road, but in a wet track day they were wasted. Back ones went right back to the plate in 4000 road miles and 3x 8 lap sessions. Fronts 90% worn.

Pagids currently 6000 road miles and 2 full track days, 75% worn.

I do have to admit that the Mintex where used on standard discs and the Padgids on grooved discs. So it is not a complete like for like, but if anything I would say that the grooved discs are 'more' absasive than the std.

Downsides. Bit noiser, cost more, dust seems stickier.

Would I by another set..... yes.

I am surprised. I use grooved discs, and got 15k (including 1 track day) out of my last 1155s, and they were only c70% worn. On track, they didn't fade once, even though they got *very* overheated at one point!!
