Hey guys,
Thinking you have already covered this topic (I couldnt find anything in search ) I was wondering if anyone knew what the best track set up for brakes was.
I have currently the standard Brembo set up, they perform really well on fast road, but I have heard bad things for track. I am quite interested in the full 6-pot AP kit from Power Engineering Does anyone else do these for the Evo?), but £1700 is a lot of money. Is there a straight disc/pad replacement designed for track use? Perhaps just the replacement AP discs? I have heard that the standard Brembo calipers are better than the AP's calipers?
I have had numerous Group 'N' spec replacement discs and pads on my scoob in the past and I was never left impressed, they just didnt perform to expectations and suffered bad fade after a few laps of hard driving (I dont go daisy picking when I drive, I am quite hard on the car especially the brakes).
Cheers,
Cem
(ps. its for an Evo VI)

Cem, why dont u try them on track yourself and then change if u become unhappy/uninspired.
I thought it was widely acknowledged that AP make the best brake calipers in the world period.
If youre going to do it then do it properly.

Cem, for some reason Sunil has some of the better brakes for sale in the market place. But he still drives like a 90 year old person with 2 foot vison. (I.E. driving miss daisy) AP 6 pots.

Cem,
I currently run AP discs with Brembo calipers on my Scoob(as does PTMW). If you want to try them on track at Donno with Pagid blues you're welcome.

Cem, i have AP 6 pots with 330mm drilled discs and pagid pads, great for stopping when muppets from the south london council estates drving silver sccobs and wearing baseball caps cut you up because theyre trying to drive and map their ecu at the same time

Cem, the brake setup comes with some extent of personal testing. What suits some may not suit others. If you are asking as an upgrade for the scoob then AP's or Brembo's are the way to go. If it's for the Evo then these calipers are well up to the job, maybe you just need to change the discs.
As for tuning while driving then maybe the person involved should take it back to the place of purchase and get them to set it up properly......

Why don't you try using different pads before you spend all that wedge on a completely new kit?
I have AP6pots with carbon metallic pads.
The one thing I do find is that the brake pedal feels quite soft to me. Though I have been assured there is absolutely nothing wrong and the pedal feel is spot on for a car with 6pots.
Next time I'm home I'll let you drive the car to see what you think.
With the money you save you can get a decent stereo

I was reading Banzai last week, and read that M.A.Developments are running Brembo calipers with AP disks and Pads with great results!!
Might be worth a look??
Martin
I have AP 6 pots arriving this week
Sorry, should have said they run a black Evo VI.

Bajie.
What's wrong with that? My car uses cm's too.
Cem.
I have seen several EVO's suffer from warped discs on track, but this is undoubtedly down to the disc quality, not the calipers.
I would certainly try upgrading to AP discs before changing the whole set-up.
Having said that, Mitsubishi must change the Brmebo's for AP's on the RS450 for a reason!

Sunil,
They do. Very harsh on road discs, but in the rally and competition sector, they are classed as 'consumables'.
Cem (who all of a sudden knows it all)

My car has cm pads too . But mine are for fast road use and [I think] yours aren't.
The ones I have try not to have your discs for lunch.
And only a bloody fool touches them after a rather spirited bout of driving ...

David,
Had both "coated" and "uncoated" Brembos before APs. For me biggest difference is better feel when less than smoking hot (and of course no warping)

Another brakesystem available for the GTT is based on Porsche parts, it uses Porsche discs (several sizes available) and either choice of 996 or GT3 calipers.
It is expensive at DM 4399,= +tax+shipping, but this I think is the ultimate system.
