Hi all, whilst trying to work out what tyres you guys (an' girls?) rate as good and bad so I can see what to fit to my scooby in 205/40/17" size, I thought I would start a thread where each person could say what tyres they have/have had, and any recommendations for us new boys to the AWD scene, because of the variety amongst other threads/questions.
So if you have any experience with tyres on a scooby whether 15",16", etc. please post something here for us and the benefit of any newbees.
p.s. I have some weird jap tyres named Silverstone? any ideas what they are? they seem very good!

General feeling is SO2, Eagle F1, with non-stop arguing of the Toyo Proxies etc. Some love'm some hate them.
Me, I would have the SO2's without a second thought.
Do a search, there has been stack's writen about them.

Hi Trev
I'm new to the scene like you.
My MY98 came with Avon ZZ1s (16"). Gonna change them as soon as I can though.
Too much understeer and no wrip in the wet.
Probably go for SO2s judging by the comments.
Cheers

Trev,
My car, MY99 with standard 16" wheels, has had 3 sets of tyres so far;
OE Bridgestone Potenza
Not bad in the dry, not that good in the wet with lots of power understeer available if you wanted. But they had stiff sidewalls so gave quite a bit of confidence.
Goodyear F1
Good in the wet and dry. Very progressive on the limit. But the side walls were quite soft so there was some flex, which took some time getting used to going hard into corners thinking you had reached the limit when in fact it was just the flex in the side walls. Seemed to overheat quite quickly if pushed which resulted in a loss of grip.
Toyo Proxes T1S
Similar to the Goodyears but are better with standing water and have less side wall flex so are easier to get used to. These also overheat on the road but not as bad as the Goodyears.
The first 2 sets of tyres each lasted about 10k miles. At which point they were still road legal (about 2.5mm on the fronts, 4mm on the rears) but I don't run my tyres into the ground. When I'm not getting the grip I'm used to on wet roads I change them.
I have also found that its worth getting your wheels balanced every 5k miles.

Cheers Guys (& Girls?), looks like its a bit of a personal choice when at the tyre fitters (price/looks etc.). Thanks.
On a side note everyone thinks i'm a nutter on the road (don't know why????) but reading these and other threads I feel like I drive like an OAP (no disrespect to OAP's). May be I should stop enjoying the comfy ride, the light steering, the great build quality, the....,. O'well might as well get that slow mobile.
You're all mad, ENJOY!
Seriously Thanks.
Trev.
