why not?? this is a common misconception....................
you especially need to uprate the rear of the car if you are using the car in "anger" (trackday/ competition, etc.)..................
with std rears you will get too much "pitch" under heavy braking (forward weight transfer) which ultimately will put more strain on the front tyre limiting the amount of braking effort you can place!!
with a "better" rear brake the car stays 'flatter' under braking (as the rear brakes pull the back of the car down) taking load of the front tyres and allowing much greater braking force before the wheels lock!!!
just check out the size of scooby WRC rear 'tarmac' brakes if you have any doubts...............
if you need any advice feel free to contact me,..............

Alyn,
I've noticed this with my Godspeed 330mm fronts. I'm running std (cheap) Kevlar rear pads and the car dives quite severely under braking.
When you say "upgrade" the rears, what's the usual practice? I'm not into trackdays (well not yet anyway), just fast road driving B-roads mainly.
Would a matching rear pad help or does it need to be a caliper upgrade (MY99 UK)? I already have some Godspeed grooved, vented rear discs.
Suspension is something I'm considering as the car squirms around too much as it pitches. I also feel it floats and wallows about too much, but I've still to try a better geo setup.
