Default Wheel offset and spacer questions??

Right guy's, I've got the Godspeed 335mm kit, which has a slight built in spacer in that the bell is 2mm thicker than a standard disc, and seeing as I'm running Prodrive ST2 alloys, they are extremely close to the caliper, so with all that in mind I've been using 3mm spacers as well, in order to clear the calipers with a bit more 'air' anyway, decided that having 5mm less thread for the nuts was less than ideal, so removed the spacers, my god! the steerings changed totally, much more 'direct' and a bit more twitchy, can 3mm each side really make that much difference??

RON,

Not sure if it would make that much difference, but I remember Denmark saying that it should reduce understeer with the extra 2mm so I would imagine that the 3mm spacer would make a difference. I'm no expert though.
This was on the original group buy thread.

What actually cought my eye was your mention of the Prodrive ST2 wheels. I have Speedline ST2 wheels, are we talking the same wheel here? I have only 2-3mm clearance of the calliper on mine (same Godspeed kit) but was also worried about how little thread it left for the nuts to bite onto.

WOBF,
yes mate, the same wheel, depends a fraction on offset, but I'd guess they're the same, mine clear by about 1.5mm I reckon, so a tad scary, still, I went out last night and had a real blast, serious stopping and cornering, and still the paint's on the calipers, so all is well, I was a bit scared of wheel flex, but they obviously don't!!

I don't think there's an issue with just 2mm less studs, that why I removed the spacer though, cos 5mm on each stud is a fair bit.
