I get a strange feed back in brake pedal when braking hard. It feels as if it is coming from the front brakes. The only way to explain it is that it seems as if 2 pieces of metal are rubbing againt each other and casuing a knocking kinda sensation in the brake pedal. Can any one shed soem light on this one?
Thanks

Possibly picked up a stone, or a coconut judging by your location.

Question

Have you checked that your pads aren't worn out?

Mike.

i have check and the pads arent worn, nope it cant be a stone cause it happens every time i press the brakes extremly hard. It feels like something under the car is going to fall apart ...could it be that the brake calipers moving abit and rubbing on the inside of the rim and causing the problem?

Does sound a bit like the ABS kicking in, Might be that the pad material has seperated from the metal backing, had this with a prevoius car, got a knocking noise when the brakes where applied. The material looks like it is still attached as it cannot move much.Visually you cannot tell 'till you remove the pads from caliper.
Incidental, how old is your car and what is the mileage? - I had my front disks go @ 17k on my MY99 car - the pads where not worn out as such just low. i had a few others post relpies with the same problem at similar mile on MY99 cars. Dealer did 'em under warranty.

Cool

I'll third the ABS suggestion.

Do you have ABS fitted? What sort of weather and road conditions are the judders occuring in?

i can't really explain it any better. i have noticed a lot when i first got the car. lets say if pressed the brakes too hard to slow down on a track from 110mph to a 30mph hairpin after managing to screw up my braking point, at the point just before a wheel lock i used to get this strange noise from underneath the car and the wheels start moving ( mybethey did not but it felt like it )slightly before it stopped or got the right speed.

it gets worse in the wet. since then i changed the brakes to AP (from MY99 4pots ) and got a brake support braket (which seem to have helped a lot but has not elimanted it completely yet.

SAM
hope this helps it is very difficult to explain
