SO2 PP soft or not
#1
Had a conversation with a tyre dealer about replacements for my RE010 16inch tyres. I commented that people thought that the SO2 PPs wear quickly especially on the shoulders and seemed soft. He said that they are not soft but it is just that you can go roud bends more quickly and are therefore likely to wear the shoulders more quickly. As I only have 3 to 4 mm of tread left on my original RE010s after 6500 miles I am concerned about the wear rate of the SO2 PP and may choose Eagle F1. Any comments about the speed that these tyres wear?
Also does anyone know the original depth of an RE010?

FWIW, I have just replaced a set of 205/50-16 S02-PP for P-Zero's.
I really liked the SO2-PP's which had replaced the RE010's - they seemed to offer excellent grip wet or dry. Basically all the good things said about them seemed true.
Coupled with "prodrive" geometry they did indeed wear tyre edges quite quickly (sorry can't tell you mileage as I don't keep track of it).
However, after a few 100 miles on the P-zero's I'm totally sold on them. Ultimate grip may not be up to the S02-PP's - but I'm never going to notice given my personal driving style.
They seem sort of, well, "grown up" compared to the SO2's. They are whole lot more precise in the steering department than the S02's and much much quieter too. The feedback is more accurate - I find them much more refined and informative, basically.
I think it has been said by others that S02's in 205/45-17 are great but don't use them for 205/50-16.
My recent experience would support this.
