Question Prodrive disc replacement

Any recomendations for a Prodrive 330mm disc replacement (Alcon caliper).
I don't fancy paying Prodrive prices again and would rather go down the seperate bell & rotor route.
I've heard that Ian Godney & Hi-spec do them but has any body tried them
and are there any others ?

Have wondered this but its a long way down the line before worrying.
I was thinking of trying Godspeed and also Alcon themselves.

I'd avoid Hi-Spec like the plague - too many horror stories and pi$$ poor service.

Just a thought, will an AP 330mm disc as sold with their 4 pot kit fit with the Alcon caliper?
Has any one else got an alternative.

No idea, but you'd need to check the offset of the AP disc. The AP bracket that pushes their caliper away from your hub will be a certain thickness to allow the disc to run true in the caliper.

The Ap disc may or may not line up with the Alcon caliper without using some spacers or altering the bracket. Guess it also depends on the thickness of the AP discs.

Ian Godney would give you some help and advice.

Surely 'if' the AP disc fitted, we'd know by now!!
I very much doubt it, but I know for fact that Ian can sort it a set-up to replace the one piece discs for two piece jobbies!

Thanks for the comments, guess I'll contact Ian Godney and see what he has to offer.

Cheers.

Ian is the man,ALcon wont touch you direct they will only point you to Prodrive,i needed replacement pad shims last week and Prodrive only sell them with the new pads, £146 + Vat 'sir'.Yeah right we had a stainless set made for FREE,i agree about the AP discs not fitting the Alcons as it all about the disc offset.

Nicky

Talk to your dealer, the replacement disc and pad prices have been reduced by around 25% recently

Mike,
Thats nice to know, It might not be as big a shock to the wallet as I thought then.

Out of interest which pads are you supplying with them now, If I remember correctly the came with the DS2000's. I think i would be looking for the DS2500 to match up with my rears as they do seem to be more disk friendly.

If you want to fit AP discs then I can make bells to suit , or I can supply our own discs and bells , once you have them fitted the discs are then £130 each as you re-use the bells

Nick

They aren't DS2500, they are something similar which is comparable in performance.

Ooh, that was a cagey reply Mike! Don't want to be seen as endorsing a certain brand? I'm surprised Prodrive don't do their own pads.

Alcon make a new range of rotors/ discs - the Advantage range- and make a 330mm rotor which,if you get a bell of the correct offset made by God speed, Hispec, Ears, or the like, will fit the alcon calipers, or do the same with AP kit.

The original one piece rotor is a good bit of kit while it's working, in my experience and IMHO, but they are unfortunately prone to warping if they are taken over 550C, so another alternative is to improve the cooling to the front brakes with brake ducting and/or removal of the shield behind the discs (careful of the ABS sensor if you do the latter - it will have to be removed and refitted as it sticks through a hole in the shield). All at your own risk of course.

Thanks for the reply's.
On closer inspection they might last another few months longer, the vents on the rotors are still visable and not as close to the rotor face as I first thought.

Out of interest I rang Listers for a price on a set of replacement pads, £170+vat ! so much for the 25% reduction in prices Mike. Just orderd DS2500 from TSL £105+vat & delivery (cheers guy's), just in case they need replacing on next weeks service.

Nick.
