Hi all..

Got a little niggling problem, when I'm reversing and if I brake ( nothing too harsh ! ) I get a "clunk"...it sounds like pads moving ? If i continue to reverse and brake it does'nt do it again BUT when I brake for the first time going forwards it " clunks" again ?? Is this pads moving within the calipers ? Has anyone else had this fault ( if it is a fault ).

My MY00 has done that since new. Your discription is EXACTLY how it happens. Does anyone have any ideas? Should we be telling our dealers or is it one of those "...they just do that..." numbers?

Yep this is on a 99 Sport, it's only 3 months old and it's done it as far as I can remember since new......more investigation is need i think...

My 99 does the same - it is probably to do with the pads relocating. I personally am not worried or concerned about it (but I could be if someone tells me different!).

Perhaps sir would refrain from braking whilst reversing his vehicle, that should prevent these unwanted and embarasing clunking noises (from the brakes, at least)!

Yup, it looks like the pad design causes this. Before putting forward blue peter solutions for this, please take into account the heat expansion and other factors the brakes have to deal with.

There is nothing to 'fix' here.

Most cars do it, it is merely as said before, the pads settling back in the pad enclosure of the caliper.

my car also is doing it MY99. however it only started after a track day. i thought i just needed new pads?

 

COUNT ME IN : MY99 TURBO , BRAKES STILL COLD,

ONLY ON FIRST APPLICATION WHEN REVERSING.

NOT WORRIED ABOUT IT.........SO FAR!

MAY BE IT WILL CLEAR IT SELF IN THE NEW

MILLENIUM.

No it will not stop doing it, there is nothing to worry about at all, it is the pads setling back in the caliper, it will/may do it the first time each time you reverse, after that the slack has been taken back up in the caliper.

All is fine. One of the TRUE "they all do that sir" lines.

Aziz may have to wait a while though as the new millenium starts on Jan 1 2001, (not 2000).

Jan 1 2000 is merely the start of the last year of this millenium.

I notice you dodged the POSSUM LINK year 2000 compliance issue, is there something you don't want to tell us?

Sorry Moray, didn't dodge it, I thought you were joking.

I am not aware of any Y2K compliance problems with the Possum Link ECU, they don't come with a certificate, (Mine didn't).

As far as I know, they do not involve any date calculations which would require such a certificate.

If you need any more info. ask away and I will get the answers for you.

Back on-topic.....

Even the Brembo kit does this... certainly with Pagid blue pads, can't remember if they did with Brembo pads (didn't like them so removed them sharpish). Of course it could just be the discs rotating a little bit, they are after all, fully floating :-)
