Brakes....tech question
Hiya all,
can someone please explain the rear brakes on an Impreza sport...
the standard impreza has "leading and trailing type" rear brakes ( tech spec sheet ) these i understand. So what does the sport have, drums I know but what type of brakes and how do they differ from leading and trailing ?
Thanx in advance

Drum brakes - I remember them old things...
Anyhow, a drum barke works by having a pair of internal brake shoes forced out onto the drum - hence friction hence slower speeds.
The shoes are are forced outwards by either one ot two pivots at the mounting points. If only one pivot operates then this is either a leading or trailing type - leading if the pivot is towards the front of the brake. If both pivots operate then this is a twin leading shoe - tricky to set up but best for braking power.
Crap explanation but take one apart and you'll see what I mean....

Hello,
The days of the drum are not gone, they're just smaller. The rear brakes have a drum brake as a parking brake. And you still get to chase little springs across the room when you play with them
My bottom-end scooby had drum brakes that I replaced with 10.3" discs with drum handbrakes. What a lot of work...
