I'm getting an STi and I'm trying to decide about 17 or 18 inch wheels. I'm getting the Prodrive spring pack - will the ride be too hard with 18 inch wheels?
Apart from ride quality, is there much noticeable difference between 17 and 18 inch?
cheers

Don't know about the 18's but I think the 17's look big enough visually and they feel fine.

I had 18's on my STi5 and definately found them a hard ride. They skipped a bit in corners too if pushed hard (even on P Zero's).
Now on 17's and finding them better all round (and that's on cheap rubber - part of the package).
18's look great, 17's better in practice - your choice m8

Thumbs up

just put some 18's (225/35's) on my new sti type R, didnt make the ride any harder then the standard 16's but definatly handles much better. the wheels were the WRC P1 rim from the dealer, the optimum wheel for the P1 so fine for the sti too

I wouldn't mind a firmer ride to have 18's. They are just right looking imo

I'm being forced to get 18s because I don't want gold wheels (or gold wheels which have been spray painted silver).
Are there any 17 inch silver/grey wheels which will fit an STi8?

cheers

Tony

If you a UK STi then 18" wheels with the right tyres are the way to go. Better ride and more progressive at the limit are the obvious benefits despite the comments above, some of which refer to the older cars which only worked if you'd got the right suspension fitted.

Mike,
I hope so! I'm getting the Prodrive spring set too. I figured I'd keep the original springs and, if the Prodrive springs + 18 wheels is too hard/jittery a ride then I'll change back to the normal springs.

Brun,
spray painted wheels are bad enough! And as for gold spray painted wheels... oops, maybe this is the wrong forum to vent my spleen about aesthetics and the art of wheel design and where Subaru went wrong!

Don't worry, you won't be needing to refit the std springs
