Question

I've recently noticed some vibration through the steering wheel of my MY98, but only noticeable around 65-70mph, regardless of the type of road surface. Get to about 75mph, and it disappears.

I'm planning to get the wheel balancing checked (I'm running 17" Prodrive ST2s), as I suspect I may have lost a wheel weight, but could it be anything else ?

TIA

There are other possibilities - wheel bearing, deformed alloys, warped brake discs, but with those you usually feel some vibration all the time

I've found that any vibration found within just a certain speed range is always been balancing.

It's worth swapping the fronts for the rears to see if the problem goes away or moves to another speed range.

I did that on my car a few weeks back and the vibration disappeared. ipso facto, balance was out.

Cool

I had this on my car mate.
Also vibrate at about 70mph ish.
When I got new tyres, balanced and fitted, no more vibration.
I would suggest it only being the balancing. maybe one of the weights have fallen off?
Get them balanced that should do the trick.

Thanks guys, definitely looks like wheel balancing is the first thing to check.

Hi,
I had a similar problem which was caused by the tyres wearing out unevenly. My problem was between 70 and 110 - bummer really because spent most of my time at that speed . Anyway had the tyres replaced (and rebalanced of course) and problem solved. I definitely did not lose any weights though. Hope this helps

Cheers, tyres are fairly new, but I'll check while wheels are off.

I had the same thing.......went to a local tyre place to get the balancing checked, and turned out to be a buckled/warped wheel!

Hope yours is more simple
