reccomendations for MY99 front brake upgrade
#1
I was looking at a set of AP 6 pots but dont think that i will have the cash, but need new brakes ASAP (discs cracked)I dont want to put the standard size discs on again as they get too much of a pasting.
can anyone reccomend a 330mm disc kit that retains the origional 4 pot callipers (apart from godspeed as i dont wanna *** with the callipers)
thnx

you're not really altering the originals that much with the Godspeed kit. Larger rotors will no doubt mean thicker discs as well as an increased in diameter.
For that reason, you need the calipers adjusted with spacers to cope with the thicker disc and brackets to push the caliper further away from the hub to accomodate the larger diameter.
The existing caliper mounts aren't threaded, so these need to be tapped to accept the bolt for the caliper mounting bracket.
If you want, you can remove the spacer, remove the bracket and refit OE parts when you come to sell the car.
Other than the usual Group N upgraded discs I've never seen larger rotors for an Impreza that doesn't need the calipers spaced or mounting brackets.
Ian will supply you with standard size replacement discs if you don't want the larger upgrade.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES
I AM AWARE THAT I WOULD NEED BRACKETS FOR THE CALIPER IF GOING FOR FOR LARGER (DIAM) DISCS BUT DIDNT WANT TO HAVE TO PUT SPACERS IN THE CALIPER ASWELL.(MECHANICLY INEPT)
DOES LARGER DIAM USUALLY MEEN THICKER AS WELL?
GODSPEED SEEM TO BE WELL RATED BUT ARE THEY A LOT OF HASSLE TO FIT?

I had the Pagid gp N kit (abt £400) on my MY99, made a big difference, fine for normal (spirited) road use, the 6 pot/330mm kits would have to be a hell of a lot better to be worth £1500ish... I think its the braided lines that make alot of the difference
Depends if you take it on the track

Braided lines don't make that much of a difference on their own. In fact if you gave me a car with OE brakes and I drove for a few laps, then I drove the same car with on braided hoses added I doubt I could tell them apart. Well I probably could, but I'd put that done to the brake fluid being bled or even changed when the braided lines had been fitted IMHO, of course
AP 6-pots are incredible. Even their 4-pots are astonishing. What sets them apart from std Subaru 4-pots and Group N discs are their lightweight and their ability to withstand heavy abuse all day long. But that's the same as any big brake kit (Brembo, Movit, KAD, etc..).
Whether your type of driving demands this difference (and the hefty price tag too match) I can't say. If you want to do lots of trackdays then they need serious consideration. Most people swear by them "as the best", but most have never tried any other large kits or don't do the type of driving to justify the kits
Certainly the Godspeed kit stops my car as quickly as I need for my type of driving, although I generally like to sort the cars handling first so I don't have to slow down as much
The kit is very easy to fit. My local garage did mine in 2.5hrs @ £25 per hour, so it doesn't have to be an expensive option to have someone fit them for you. They did bleed the brakes incorrectly, but that's nothing to do with their kit, just one mechanics mistake. The owner sorted them properly when I took the car back after I new something wasn't right.
The main reasons I went for Ian's kit was a) for a much better braking system (without needing a bank loan) and b) the low cost of replacement discs.

Had the Pagid N+ discs and pads. Have noticed a huge difference in day to day driving and more so on rural lanes. Things now fly off the seat when applying brakes heavily. My choice to go to these were the cost vs performance i.e. only wanted for day to day not track performance. hope this helps

many thanks for the replys gentlemen.
looks like I got some thinking about how hard i am gonna drive it (I do tend to get through brakes), and work out if I am gonna start doin some track days.
Bridgend is a piece of p!ss to get to from here and I could use it as an excuse to do some kite boarding for a day!!!!
but then again I want the AP's but the godspeeds look ace too and i'd save some cash....................................aaaarrrrgg gghhhhhhhhhhhhh.
should a bought a T reg Maxi.

Well, you could pay £1,500 for AP's or £600 for the Godspeeds. With the £900 saved you could go kitesurfing somewhere nice a warm
There's a few people that have used the Godspeeds on track with no problems. I guess it's all down to your driving style and just how late and hard you brake. Maybe a trip to Ian where you can possibly try them out would help.
