I've just had my car in the dealers for the an oil & filter change and overheard another Bug-Eye owner complaining about uneven tyre wear. I also mentioned it, as my passenger side front tyre is badly worn on the inside edge. I'll need to replace the tyre before the majority of the tread is down to 4mm.

The service manager says that there is a Bulletin stuck on the desk of someone at IM(due to Hols/sickness) that's about to be sent out. Has anyone seen this ? Has anyone managed to get IM to pay for a new tyre ? My last 'Classic' Impreza worn tyres very evenly over the same roads as my Bug-eye and both have Prodrive/Powerstation Geometry settings !!!

Being told "they all do that sir" doesn't really help.

May be I should start a class action suit against IM !

Regards,

Ian

Yep - me too. A trip to Powerstation for a set of Eibachs and full alignment / geometry setup works wonders!

Thanks for the replies guys, however I'm running Power Station geometry !

Obviously alignment is done with the car static. I'm sure the problem with Bugeye's is to do with movement in the suspension bushes when cornering. I was hoping some-one on here may have spied the bulletin my dealer's after.

For what it's worth I have the same problem but on the drivers side ?? nearside has worn pretty evenly the drivers side has torn out the inside front and rear, MY02 with 14K on the clock I had the geometry checked twice at Osbournes in Colchester when Ifirst had the car because the tyres where all feathering up the first time they altered it the car felt dreadful wandered all over the road and pulled to the nearside so it went back they altered it again felt slightly better but the wear is clearly not right ??

Since my car was properly setup. I haven't had the problem. Car has now done 44000 miles and I only had this on the first set of tyres (prior to Powerstation).

I've just swapped my latest Toyos front to back after about 8000 miles and the fronts were perfect. Slightly more wear than the backs, but totally even.

Hi Chris,

Mine was set-up at Powerstation on the 28/5/02 to the following spec on a UK300 with 18" Rims with 225/50/18 Yokohama AVS Sports:

Front Camber LHS -1 degree 19 mins RHS -1 degree 14 mins
Front Toe LHS +0 degrees 3 mins RHS +0 degrees 2 mins

Rear Camber LHS -1 degree 23 mins RHS -1 degree 33 mins
Rear Toe LHS -0 degrees 1 mins RHS +0 degrees 1 mins

I've done 12,000 miles on the tyres and rotated front to rear every 6000 miles. They are all 4-5 mm tread depth apart from the inside edge of the passenger front tyre.

I'd be most interested in your car readings. I spoke to Powerstation some weeks ago, and they couldn't explain the uneven wear and suggested I could run slightly less camber on the front which would reduce grip on tight corners.

Best regards,

Ian

Sti 7 with Powerstation geometry

Did 22k on my first set of tyres. Totally even wear and 3mm tread left.

So far 6k on second set, wear even again.

I have had the alignment done twice in this period, once early on at 5k and once again at 22k when the new tyres were fitted. The settings had moved away from optimal, but not a huge amount.

I would think if you are getting uneven wear on one tyre then possibly it has moved and you need to get it rechecked ?

Just been for my 10k service in the bugeye. Inside of the quarter of the rears is bald, fronts fairly even. The dealer said this is normal... time for new tyres.

so Ian , let us know if you ever find out what the bulletin is/was. I have a 2001 WRX bugeye and also noticed uneven wear.. only seems to be on the front wheels and on the inside. surely if its an inherent fault with bugeyes then we should take them in for the "free fix" before the warranty runs out
