Unhappy

Lo peeps

Before I write any further, I'm not trying to slate Godspeed or worry anyone as I'm sure this is a unique stuation and I'm fairly sure I know what the cause might be.

I've had the 335 kit on now for a few months, but up until two weeks ago the car has only had a few short journeys, so the brakes are probably not bed in fully yet.
Took the car for a good drive two weeks ago, 100 miles at least. During the drive, we started to get a rattling noise from under above the drivers foot well.
Got home, checked it, and turns out one of the bolts that holds the clutch pedal on had come loose!!
Tightened it up and all was fine.

Took the car out for another drive, 100 miles at least, coming home, start hearing a rattling noise from the left front wheel.
Sounded like a spring had snapped or the strutt was loose or something.

Took the wheel off to inspect, and noticed the one of the large retaining bolts that holds the bracket on to the hub had un done itself almost fully!!
The only thing that stopped if from falling out was that it had jammed on the strutt bolt and couldn't unwind any further.

The other thing I noticed was that there were no washers on any of the 4 big bots that hold the calipers to the hub, but I'm sure there were 4 washers supplied with the kit?
Can anyone confirm please?

Any ideas what could be causing tall these bolts to start loosening off?
Wheels are fine, all balanced last week, car drives very well, in a straight line

You usually have to use threadlock on caliper retaining bolts. Just get some, undo bolts, squeeze some threadlock on and do them up as tight as you can with a big spanner

Hi m8,

Yeh, thats what the noise was!
Was the same caliper that was suspected of sticking (NS).
I fitted the brakes my self, so I know the job was done properly
I.E everything was definately tightened and double checked.

As for the washers, I'm sure you get washers with the Godspeed kit, 4 big brass ones?, but I havent used any washers and can't find any lying around.

I'll try some thread lock and see how that goes!!

Cheers

Did you check when you fitted the brakes that the caliper sits central to the disc?

Did you buy the kit from Godspeed? If so, then maybe they can send you replacement washers if it's found to be necessary.

Did you torque the retaining bolts? Should be 75Ib ft IIRC or thereabouts.

Alan

Oi u

LOL, no, no and no!!

Thanks Alan

Going to take the calipers back off and refit them.
Will make sure the retaining bolts are torqued to 75lb's ft and that the calipers are sitting central to the disc and use some thread lock.

Just looked at Silversmiths thread , and they appear to have washers fitted.

14th picture down.

Ian, have you got some spare washers you could send me please for both calipers?

Best regards

Scoty
