Whilst cleaning the car yesterday evening I noticed some small hairline cracks on the front discs (Subaru vented / 4 pot type). None of them are more than about a centimetre long. The discs are worn but I wouldn't say they are worn out yet having done around 38k. I'm not that heavy on brakes, the pads on my old BM used to last an age. Yes the pads still have some life left in them before anyone asks.

Should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Graz.

Common problem, if in warranty, get the dealer to change them!!
If not in warranty, upgrade!!

Thanks Ron,

I suspect I would struggle to get a new set under warranty, probably say it's wear and tear at 38k.

Problem is I'm off to Scotland for a week on Saturday so no chance to get them changed. Don't fancy the prospect of a disk exploding whilst playing on the mountain passes. Methinks I will keep a very close eye on them.

Probably go for a Scoobysport Pagid upgrade kit instead of Subaru disks and pads when I do replace them

Graz - don't get too exited over the cracks m8. Had them quite bad on mine for several months b4 I upgraded. It got mentioned during service but not considered dangerous etc. Good excuse for an upgrade though me thinks !

Cheers

If iit's just cracls on the surface I wouldn't worry too much about them either. Mine were covered with small heat cracks for neraly a year before I changed them. I didn't notice any problem with the braking.

Thumbs up

No problem with those mate.

As I understand it cracks are formed when disc gets hot due to braking and outer surface gets rapidly cooled by water splash, outside layer contracts and hairline cracks form. These do not go deep into the disc.

I have had them on mine for last 4 years (knackered now- upgrading now to 4 pots - Thanks Rebecca
