Why 205x45x17 ???
#1
Anyone know or had any experience of why my 99V 5 door turbo with PPP and 17inch prodrive speedlines has 205x45x17 inch rubber. everyone else appears to have 215x40x17 which is far more common in the shops (and possibly cheaper).
Also anyone fitted 215's to replace 205's and if so did they cause any problems with clearence
Any help greatly appreciated?

I have 215x45x17 Yokohama AVS's just fitted to my MY95 WRX and I don't have any scrubbing problems - the car's slightly lowered as well. Used to have 205x45x17's until 2 weeks ago but changed size for more choice.
Good in the dry, can't comment on the performance of the tyre in the wet yet as it aint rained since I got 'em but they were recommended by a friend who owns Guildford Tyre Services (he was given them by Yokohama to try them on his Scoob and he thinks they're the dogs despite having other Yokohama tyres before and thinking they were pants!).

Two reasons for the 205/45/17's really.....
1. Prodrive like Pirelli tyres and this is about the only one that comes in 205/45/17 form.
2. The 205/45/17 has a different weight rating over the 215/40/17 (86 v 82).
The higher rating is actually better (the 205) but the choice of tyres with the 82 rating is greater.
