Question

I am currently still getting a slight vibration through the steering wheel from my new MY03 STi Type UK with its upgraded 18 inch, OZ Prodrive 10 spoke gold alloys.

I am now on my second set (replaced under warranty) of wheels and still get a very slight vibration.

The speed at which this happens is at 73 (+- 1mph) on the Road Angel (77-79mph on the speedo of the car). It happens on various road surfaces.

The strange thing is, that with the old set of OZ wheels, the vibrations were happening at exactly the same speed and the vibrations became much worse over a period of 3-4 weeks, until the steering wheel started moving a good 1cm up and down.

I am running 33psi front, 32psi rear.

Has anyone else felt this? Could any of you run a test next time you are out in your car? You need to be moving at 77-78mph on your speedo (or 73ish on a Road Angel).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Richie.

Some other info to add....

o Hubs etc have been tested/measured and are well within factory/Subaru tolerances

o Wheels have been re-balanced at a number of different garages

o 1st set of wheels had PZero Neros (225/40/18), new set has Goodyear F1 GSD3 (225/40/18)

Cheers,

Richie.

Question

I find something similar in my MY02 WRX on 17's - clears if you go slightly faster (honest officer )

wonder if there's some harmonic of a resonant frequency in the drive system were finding which creates the vibration? (eternal damnation for going over 70 )

if it's been the same on two sets of wheels, does it look like it's not the wheels?

added that it just feels like your wheels need balancing but only in that small speed band - seems to be OK at others...

Yeah same problem on my uk 300 in the 70-80 band. rock solid otherwise. Even after I switched to Toyos's same problem, then, as if by magic got them balanced (3rd time) at a service, problem gone. I was wondering if the wheels had shed weights when balanced previously cause the glue hadn't set before I drove it off?.

The dealers put 17's on and the vibes vanished However, I am now on my second set of OZ 18's (different batch) and 2nd set of tyres. There is another car with the same vibes & same wheels but with Toyos.

I was hoping to put the feelers out to find out if anyother people with these wheels or people with my03 notice any vibes at that speed.

Drive shafts etc did not come off the car after it drove ok on original 17's.
