Question

Does a 255/40 17" tyre have the same outer circumference as a 235/45 17"?

Cheers

I believe you mean 225/40/17 that is 61,18 cm height(*3,14/2) while 235/45/17 is 64,33 cm. Otherwise 255/40/17 is 63,58 cm.
Hope this helps you!
JIM

Look here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

If you do mean 255/40 and 235/45 tyres then the 255 tyre circumference is 1 inch smaller.
If you where going from 235 to 255 then the speedo will read 1.2% to fast. when the speedo says your doing 60MPH you'l acctually be doing 59.3MPH
