Question

Help!

I am running 195/60/15 tyres (615mm diam) on 15*6J genuine Subaru alloys but need two new tyres (one puncture ) Brightside = good time to go to 17's.

Should I go for 225/40/17 (612mm diam) or 205/45/17 (616mm diam) I thought that 17's on a classic (I have a MY99 Sport) should be on 40 profile tyres...

I once tried some 225/45/17 tyres but the rubbed on rear strutts so think are too wide - how do I work out offset too???

Thanks, Jon

Ps. have been using this tyre diam tool

On a classic the standard tyres on 17" wheels come as 205/45/17 but this limits you to a few manufacturers e.g. Pirelli. Most people (including myself) go to 215/40/17 which means you can get Toyo T1-S, Goodyear F1's, Bridgestones etc and keep a very similar rolling radius (might under read on the speedo which is better IMHO).

Hi Rusty

I had 205/45/17 P zero;s on my RB5 and at the time Prodrive said they were the optimum tyre size. I have seen others with 215/40/17 Bridgestone Potenzas SO2 's which do not require any mods. I am going tofit 225/40/18 to my Sti8 (96 miles now !!)soon providing I can get source some Prodrive OZ.

Cheers

Dave

Hi,

I ran 225x35 on 18s with PZeros which preserves the rolling radius I believe (unfortunately they don't fit my STi type UK so I'm going to be posting a query re. what I could upgrade the std 17s to & what my Radius multispoke in silver 18s could be worth.
