My P1 going in for service at weekend and think rear brakes need new discs and pads.Rather than getting standard ones thrown on by garage was wondering if anyone could recommend alternatives?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

john.

Standard rear brakes are plenty good enough John. Upgrading them is a waste of money because if the rear brakes are too effective the car's braking stability will be compromised, i.e the back end will come round to meet you. Stick with what you've got.

the above advice applies to a point......but, if you have upgraded the fronts heavily then it can be worthwhile re-balancing the rear brakes (even just by fitting uprated pads!). this will allow the car to brake "flatter".
hope this is of some help,

That is helpful - fronts have had the Prodrive upgrade so maybe rears could do with something little better than standard.Any suggestions?

Thanks,

john.

John,

The Subaru OEM ones are expensive (for OEM's), so you may as well pay the same price and get 3rd-party uprated ones. You could probably get some Pagid discs & pads for the same cost, if not cheaper than the original Subaru ones.

I'm about to get the Godspeed ones myself.

John,

Midland Impreza were doing a special on Pagid discs and pads for the rear if you would like a local supplier.

Check the bottom of this page - http://www.midland-impreza.com/cars_for_sale.htm

www.spareshq.co.uk do ebc rears for £85+VAT for the vented discs and £39+VAT for solid rears. About to order some vented ones myself on Monday. The website didn't include the vented discs but I rang them, they found out and rang me back within 10 minutes. Grooved ones were £120 a pair IIRC.

HTH
