Thinking of fitting 17" wheels to my98 turbo. Do i need to lower the suspension? Photos of cars with 17`s not lowered would be very much appreciated. I`m thinking about oz superleggeras

will it not be sitting slightly higher off the ground. It may look better if you narrow the gap between the arc and the wheel. I dont want it to look like a 4x4.

Hiya mate. My cousin has an STI V with 17 s fitted. I have an MY2000 uk turbo with std 16 s on. Out of interest side by side i measured from the floor to the top of the wheel arch on his and my cars, his car was only 5mm or so higher. But his car is running 225/45 tyres which are an unusual fitment size. Came on the car when he bought it and I dont think he gets much rubbing at all.
Dunno if this helps,
Happy alloying,

The thing to remember with fitting larger wheels is that the overall diameter of the wheel/tyre stays the same whatever size wheels you put on. The wheel gets bigger but the profile of the sidewall gets smaller to compensate. Thats why a BMW M3 with 20" wheels doesn't have the ground clearance of a LandRover but it does have tyres that look like elastic bands stretched over cotton reels.

I have 205/45/17's on my MY99- I think these are the "standard" size for the 17" rims for the classic body- like the RB5 etc. I will be replacing them soon and might try going to a 40% profile i.e 215/40/17 - more easily available tyre size too!
Anyone else run these on a MY98/99/00? Any wheel arch rubbing??

@sloaner
y'ok m8? 215/40 x17 is standard size on 17s. my car (95wrx) is lowered quite a bit (>40mm and still no fouling, i can fit one finger between the top of the rear tyre and the arch!!!). you don't need to lower but will make the car handle better. still clio/saxo/corsa baiting in bangor?
@impret-sir
225/45 x 17 - you may get some fouling in the arches if the car is lowered at any stage. get the arches rolled and you should have no probs. i have heard of guys ripping out the plastic inner guard to get these sizes to fit.
cheers
