Question

You have all probably been asked this question before, but here goes. A straight no nonsense answer would be much appreciated.

I have the bog standard 17" MY02 WRX wheels and tyres. It seems that the tyre wear is excessive, i've only done 5000 miles.

I certainly dont hammer the car and fly round bends excessively, i dont do track days. I am what you call a "normal" Impreza driver.

...........So, what sort of mileage should i expect from these tyres (front and back)and are these tyres renound for being soft. What tyres should i be looking for, for my next set and what mileage should i get out of them.

Sorry to be so bloody boring but i would of thought 20,000 out of a front set would not be asking too much. At the moment i'll be lucky to get 12,000.

Pete

Ps I dont do loads of M/Way driving, probably about 30% of miles is on the M/Way. (i'd have bought a Vectra if i was on the M/way all day)

I only got 10k from the factory fitted bridgestones on my my00, but these were RE010 - shouldn't think there is a massive difference though. Lot of roundabouts near me so had to change slightly prematurely due to uneven wear but I doubt I would have got much more anyway.

Just passed 6k on mine (since nov) - I reckon I'm half way down them.

Have you tried swapping front to back ?

About 12,000 is right mate.

Swap yours tyres to even out the wear...

Then when they've had it get some F1's.

Then the new Eibach "billies".

P.S. The bridgestones are hard compared to most

I got 12000 miles out of mine and that included 5 trackdays, I have gone for the F1s now and boy they are sooooo good.

So lets get this right then

1. Only expect about 12000 from a set if i rotate them at 6000

2. Dont buy these again buy F1's

3. If there are lots of roundabouts, increase pressure in all tyres to about 33 psi (additional 3psi)

Firstly, bloody hell is that all i'm gonna get from a set of tyres and double bloody hell its gonna cost say £350.00 to £400.00 minimum for a new set

I'll get me coat

I was told by a large Tyre firm that these Tyres are only good for about 5000 miles.

they also go off without any notice, i.e. loads of grip, then none, and no in between.

I know how you feel, had the same issues, tyres were bald on the inside quarters in 6,000 miles. I've put F1's on now and the handling is so much better, much less tramlining etc.

BTW, when I was down at Powerstation having my geometry done they looked shocked when I said I'd swapped fronts and backs round to even out the wear.... Are they being picky?

What should i be paying for a geometry check and adjustment.

I know that Subarus tolerances are quite poor compared to dedicated wheel/tyre companies but who does it. I dont wanna be hawking round the country adding more wear to my tyres and petrol expenses i.e. any of the big boys do this such as ATS etc etc

Had my WRX 02 PPP for 2 months and 5000 miles
REo11s are half worn - not up to the cars performance.
Very band tramlining!
Getting some 18" OZ Prodrives with 225 F1s this weekend,
anyone used this combination?

I've got 11k so far out of mine on the STi7 but have just swapped them front to rear for the second time. Although I think the wear has accelerated since the fitment of the PPP I think still on target for at least 15k.

Unhappy

Tramlining seems to be a trait of Bridgestones. I had RE010's on my MY99 which did it then I switched to PZero's which had worse grip in the wet Now have MY02 and on second set of RE011's after 11000 miles. The rears had loads of tread left but a nail found in the nearside which was irrepairable mean't I had to change all four No tramlining yet but I expect it will return after 5000 miles or so. F1's next for me

Yorkie

Your dead right, i only got tram lining after 5000 or so and is now getting steadily worse. (don't mind it too much coz the wife isn't keen on it and it puts her off..........the tyres that is)

Still don't know whether to change front to back yet though, i've done 6500k. I only seem to be getting excessive wear on the nearside outer quarter which makes me think it could just be the amount of roundabouts in Warrington.

Now done 71/2K and the front outer and inner quarters are utterly worn down. The rear set look okay for another 6K.

WTF is it just **** geometry set ups from Subaru that does this or they just not up to the performance of the car.

It does sound like geometry, get it done and you tyre wear will decrease and you will find the car handles better as well.

You could try RC developments as I think they are near (ish) to you.

I've been told in no uncertain terms to NOT swap tyres around - something to do with independant suspension and tyres being directional. this came from a trusted scooby expert (ex franchised dealer who still specialises in scooby's).

Hope this helps. And I'm after 2 or 4 Goodyear F1's if I can get through to Crossroads.

The tyres *are* directional. That doesn't mean that you can't swap them around though. It just means that you will have to remove the tyre from the left hand side wheel and refit it to the right hand side wheel to preserve the direcionality (instead of just swapping the entire wheel+tyre from left to right).

I got 7000 miles from the fronts on a MY01 before the insides of the tyres were virtually bald.

Then got TSL to do geometry setup and swap front to back on both sides. Would have got another 15000 plus out of this setup if it wasn't for another high speed pothole event!

Put budget (stunners!) tyres all round and have done 15000 and am about to swap the fronts and rears again for another 15000.

The TSL setup easily paid for itself (roughly £100 I think) in tyre wear and the car drives better as well!

Cheers

Chris

I have a MY02 5-door and got about 15,000 miles out of the OE Bridgestones. The fronts were shot but the rears probably had a bit left on them. However, I swapped all four for F1 GSD3's recently and noticed a marked improvement in grip. And zero tramlining in comparison to the Bridgestones. How long they last remains to be seen. I do mainly a mixture of motorway/urban driving but tend not to cane it due to the large amount of points on me licence !

Anyone ordering F1's from Crossroads don't hold your breath - I ordered some but they cancelled on me and sent a refund. Indundated with Scoob drivers by all counts.

Got 22k out of my OEM Bridgstones on the STI7. Still had 3mm tread on them. Mainly motorwat mileage of course.

Swapped them round twice during that time, with no problems at all.
