A friend of mine was told that tyre pressure is related to the weight of the vehicle, I am sure this is not the case.
He is now running 50psi on the fronts of his Corrado G60 with 17 " on. I dont think this is safe, can anyone enlighten me ( and hhim ) on how tyre pressure is calculated?
Cheers

More weight in the car **will** deform the tyre profile, which is why owner's manuals give higher pressures for tyres when the car's fully-laden -- it restores the tyre contact patch.
However, if he's running 17" then the pressures may be a little different from what's stated in the manual, but 50psi seems waaaay to high. Overinflation is just as harmful as under-inflation.

Running 50psi is suicidal!!!! His tyres will only be running on the centre of the tread, therefor, causing serious loss of grip! Also, they will get extremely hot while driving, causing the air in the tyres to expand, and increasing the pressure even more!!! I am running 215 40 r17 Goodyear F1's on my scoob, and they are inflated to 32psi all round. I get nice even wear out of them, and most importantly.....predictable handling. He must have a nightmare keeping his 'raddo under control round corners?
