I know it seems to be the main topic at the moment, I have a MY98 Wagon with 4 Michelin Pilot 205/50/16 "W" rated (over 150mph). I lost control this morning at about 10mph on snow, in second gear to reduce power to wheels. I nearly curbed it, and there is plenty of tread left. I am ordering some Khumo Z rated tyres from Blackcircle.co.uk, excellent advise and service. I supose everyone is gona recon they (tyres) are s**t and I shouldnt get them. Please someone tell me otherwise, Ive just spent too much for me own good. Or is there an alternative cheaper tyre, I wish I could afford F1s or Bridgestones but looks like redundancy is on its way so may have to sell her (the car) in a month.I dont want to give the buyer a car with c**p tyres on it. Any comments welcome

why are you changing the tyres if they have plenty of tread ?
I dont think it makes any difference what make of tyre you have when the tread is impacted with snow - my F1s were far from grippy this morning. 205 wide tyres and snow just dont mix.

Question

You have definately baffled me if you have lots of tread left on your tyres as all wide tyre'd cars will act this way in the snow (ie greater surface contact, less weight over that surface so less grip in snow, and this is the reason why snow tyres are skinny things )

Skinny tyres are better in snow.

If you're struggling, get another pair of OEM 16" wheels and chuck a set of winter tyres on there...

Did you order the Kumhos in the end or not ?

I'm tempted to get a set of these for use on track as they really are cheap as chips

Got Kuhmos on mine (fitted by previous owner) and personally dont rate them. Ride quality is good but however hard you try you cant seem to get any heat into them. Not very confidence inspiring near the limit or in the wet!

On the upside I have done over 4000 miles since having the car and the tyres havent worn at all (despite some abuse!!). Gonna have to do some trackdays and get that wear rate up

Are they totally useless in the wet ?

Are they progressive or do they snap ?
