Question

Hi,

I'm weighing up options for my MY01 - first port of call as always for warranty purposes is the dealer/Prodrive offerings.

Seems that there are three options down that route: full 330mm brake conversion, 294mm disc upgrade, and finally upgraded pads front and rear.

My budget probably stretches to the latter two, so can anyone give me any more info on what you get and crucially is either option particularly effective? Or am I being thick and would you really need to do both (i.e. upgrade discs and pads) at the same time?

By the way, safety for fast road use is my main objective, with the faint possibility of a trackday or two.

Thanks,
Gareth

294 discs and pads upgrade will probably do you for road use.

But if track days are a possibility, go for a two-piece disc and pads. Maybe Godspeed? They will probably be cheaper and will not affect any other aspect of your warranty.

Cheers,

Richard.

are you on original discs??
if so these will take a reasonable performance pad without any problems suggest either Pagid rs4.2/rs4.2.1 or Ferodo ds2500
you will get a handy increase in braking and will perform like a road pad at all other times.....
mail me for any info./advice

Cheers - I'm on the original discs. So what pad do you get with the Prodrive upgrade - DS2500?

One other question - is it normal/acceptable to upgrade just the front pads?

i think if u get more powerful calipers, e.g. prodrive alcons or kad or AP racing, then you need to uprate the back pads to retain some balance.

my std disks are near the end of their life... im thinking up going down the alcons or ap or kad route... was going to before, but ran out of money

within reason, yes......obviously if you go for 6pots, etc. then you would need to address rears at same time - however you can run say rs4.2's and not encounter problems dependant on use

I can highly recommend the Pagid brakes, I've got them fitted to my MY00 Turbo, admittedly with the Pagid 8 groove discs as well. After 5000 miles including a trackday at Spa I've still got half the pad depth left and the brakes really are fantastic compared with standard, no overheating probs either. They will more than likely be just as good on a standard disc. I'm running the RS 4-21 pads, which are apparently the equivalent to the OEM pad, but with higher heat capabilities. They just get better and better with heat, but are also better than standard from cold in my experience of them (minimal dusting as well).

I got mine from Performance Braking in Monmouth, 01600 713117, they're really helpful people and wont sell you something you don't need.

HTH.
