Have recently purchased a '97 wagon (turbo) (with the standard 15" wheels), with some Mickey Mouse tyres on the front (i'm sure they'll last for 50,000 miles+ !) and Avon's on the rear.

The grip isn't what i'd class as outstanding from this combination and have already had a few 'interesting' moments when negotiating roundabouts. So before i have another one that'll cause my insurance premium to rise ! has anyone got any advice on what tyre choice i should make in the next few weeks ??

Any contributions greatfully recieved,
Sean

I think I'd be very nervous with that set-up, I couldn't be sure I could predict what might happen in an un-sticky situation. Much better to have all the same type, whatever you choose, in my opinion.

You should be okay as long as you stick to the better makes..

Goodyear F1, Toyo Proxes, Yokohoma, Avons etc..

Not sure which make specifically to your size..

I think I have Michelens on my old 15inch wheels which are no longer on the car, but they were pretty good..

Might be worth swapping your wheels so the Avons are on the front... just watch the back.

Have no experience of 15"s, but Bridgestone SO2's were superb (now unavailable) in 16"/50 and latest Goodyear F1 GSd3 in 17"/40 are even better I reckon, amaze me every time I drive, especially in the wet.
I can't believe they would be significantly worse in comparison to others of that size in 15".
Haven't tried them but lots on here rate Toyo Proxes (TS-1 I think), they're cheaper too, as might be the old Goodyear F1s.

Cheers for the advice. I have 2 Goodyear F1's on the way to replace the nearly worn Avons, which will then be put on the front. and yes, i'll be carefull of the back-end !!

Just for information the i managed to get the F1's (205x55xR15) for £80 each, including fitting, valves & balance.

Thanks again for the advice

safest way would be to have the worst on the front of the car, at least then all it will do is u/steer where if you put hte rubbish on the rear the higher speed stuff will become a nightmare!!!!
buy 4 the same is the best advice....

Cheers for additional advice, i think i'll go for the 4 new F1's in one hit. Fortunately my friendly tyre fitter has ordered 4 'just in case'.

I was going to wait until the next payday, but as many people have said "whats the point in owning a performance car if you can't afford to run it !!".

Cheers
