sorry OT but need an answer before 3:30pm
A guy is offering a pair of chains on ebay that he says will fit 225/45/17. My tyres are 255 40 x R17. Can anyone advise if they are the same overall size and that the chains will fit ? He says they will fit.

The tyre radius are virtually identical
225 45/17 = 317.15mm
255 40/17 = 317.9mm
so no problem there, but obviously the width at the tread is quite different and it depends if the chain can accomodate this. Can you not try before you buy?
