OK I have a 306gti-6 not a scoob - apologies to all - but I just wondered generally what tyres are highly regarded for wet driving conditions. I currently have Pirelli P6000 tyres (I think fitted as standard on these) but with winter looming and my tread looking a bit thin I reckon it's time for some new rubber.

Lanes and roads around here suffer badly with standing water when it's raining, and aquaplaning is probably the biggest hazard. So which tyres shift water the best? I got caught out the other day and nearly totalled myself due to aquaplaning, so I want to fit some better tyres this time.

Having owned 2 306 GTi-6's ive had the Pirelli P7000 and one with Michellin MX tyres on, both were pretty good but you could try the Goodyear Eagal GD3's as those are meant to be ok?

Hi mate,
just thought i would add my opinion.
I drive an RB5 WRSport with 17" wheels and have had my F1s GSD3 pattern on now for two months and i can honestly say they are the mutts nuts in the wet and dry. I feel as though i am sticking to the road like glue in the wet and can take bends and corners at the same speed that i would in the dry!

Hope that helps

Mikey

What works on one car may not on another - the Impreza is proof of that

I, too, had a GTI-6.

OEM was P6000 - only so-so - they are a mid range tyre.

I ran it on P Zeros next and they were very good. I too am in a rural area with crappy roads, and if you want something good in the wet you need an open tread pattern preferably not with radial tread blocks.

The Goodyear F1 would however probably work well, Peugeots have been on Michelin for years so you could also try the Pilot Sport.

I would steer clear of cheap end stuff like Avon and Falken - or even mid range such as the P6000 - as you know the GTI-6 gets a bit twitchy near the limit and it is worth spending a bit more on tyres

Blip,

I had a Citroen ZX16v which is pretty similar to the pug, except it was slower but handled better I put Goodyear F1's on that and they made so much difference to standing water, it was like it didn't exist.

IMHO Goodyear F1's are the best in the wet, but Bridgestone SO2's are the best all round (not tried SO3's yet)

my 306 cab also runs the same tyres as blips 306 gti-6, should be 195-50-15's (yes i know only 15's!!) same pirelli p6000

i to am thinking of changing with winter coming up and was looking at the toyo's as they seem at good price compared to the others with a wider tread pattern (if you know what i mean)

any views of these, or would the f1's still get the vote
rem my car would be slightly heavier than blips as it the cabrio with all its electrics

cheers guys

I didn't mention S02 for the simple reason they have been discontinued in most fitments

I had The Yoko A-539 on my Clio Williams. They were fantastic on the wet , but average on dry.

I had a ZX 16 Valve like Dave W, and ran Michelin SXGTs on it. Not sure if they're available now though (1993). They were outstanding in the wet (and dry). Put them on my 2nd Scooby in '97 and it loved them.

Cheers

F1s have been consistently great on many car that I have owned. As mentioned earlier as a rule different tyres suit different cars but F1s allways seem to be good
