Winter tyre size??

Was thinking about fitting winter tyres soon and just wondering what sizes I could use.
My car is a MY99 (classic shape), currently running on 17'' Superleggeras but I kept the original 16'' wheels.
So, my question is, do I have to use exaclty the same size as the standard tyres (205/50/16) or can I also go for 205/55/16 or 195/50/16 or or or....as there is a huge price difference depending on the size...
Can somebody list all the winter tyre sizes that can be fitted on the 16'' wheels?
