Kwik Fit just quoted £69 inclusive to supply and fir Mintex 1155.

I have no idea if the 1155s they are quoting are suitable for my car. They do not list the 1155s against 98/99 imprezzas.

I have a MY99 - DECEMBER 1998 UK IMPREZA

Does anyone know if there is only one sort of
1155 and if these would fit a dec 98 car??

Nice One...I have 4 pots for certain....ta.

Also interested in knowing if 1144 (not 1155) pads are any improvement over standard subaru ones with existing discs?

I want quick fix for now with minimal dust and squeel but with slight improvement on standard pads...

The mintex pads will kill your disks, two sets on mine (two pot at the time, now 4 pot) finished off the OE disks. They were also very noisy and seemed to scrape all the time especially at low speeds in traffic (very annoying in the summer when windows down).

I went for Tarox G88 40-groove disks and cheapo pattern part pads, result equal braking as mintex pads and OE disks, overall cost was £230, they were silent and still going strong with very little wear after 13 months.

In the Insurance section, someone asked for one message
to be updated by everyone with Insurance Details, contacts
etc, so it could be used as reference whilst the search is not working.Ie, "Can you post who you're insured with..." THREAD.

I found this to be extremely useful.

Could the same thing be started here or elsewhere for brakes???

DISCS/PADS/CALIPERS -
Make, Model, Part Number, Cost, Supplier, Supplier Contact, Performance on road/fast road/track, dust and squeel levels,
fade info, life expectancy, other info, etc...

I have no info to add yet as I am still looking at the moment.

It this a good idea...anyone want to start ??

Thanks, MKC

Sounds OK to me!

Me: MY00 Turbo, Pagid 8 groove front discs, Pagid RS421 pads, cost £295 all in, Performance Braking in Monmouth, 01600 713117, noticed a bit of squeal at first, but that's now gone, performance is far in excess of standard with so far minimal dusting. VV impressed. Rear brakes as standard, don't see a need to upgrade them.

That do?

MY00

1. Mintex 1155 on standard front discs - useful improvement
2. Added Black Diamond drilled discs, DOT 5.1 and Goodridge hoses - fine until the discs cracked on first track day through drilled holds despite proper cooling
3. Replaced under warranty with Black Diamond grooved discs. These cracked too.
4. Replaced under warranty + extra cash with Tarox 40 Grooved discs - did not crack on track. Switched to DS2500 pads - good setup.
5. AP 4 pots 304mm grooved with DS2500 pads - simply fantastic.

Questmead in Rochdale are the main supplier of mintex pads in the UK,
Price quoted for mintex 1155 was around £50.90 + VAT
Group N uprated disks (not grooved) for 4 pots (294 mm) £56.66 each
www.questmead.co.uk

Try beating that, Have used mintex 1155 myself and am very pleased with their performance on road and track

MY99 with Standard 4 pots

TSL Group N Grooved Discs, DS2500 front pads, braided hoses all round, Silkolene Pro Race DOT 4 fluid.

Huge improvement when pushing hard on the road (no track use). Haven't managed to completely fade them like I did many a time on std pads and discs.

1. Mintex 1155 on std discs & calipers. slightly better than OE, but loads of dust and poor on track. Extra heat from harder pads caused disc to split after 6k. Potentially dangerous.
2. Hi-Spec 310 grooved rotors & bells, Monster 4 callipers, DS2500 pads, braided hoses. Fantastic stopping, but must keep them bedded in.
Little dust. Some squealing on light use. Pads rattle, but this can now be fixed with clips from Hi-Spec. Fantastic on track.

I too have an MY99 (December 98 facelift model).

I am currently looking for new disks and pads which my local dealer has agreed to fit for me.

Think I'll be going for the TSL grp N disks with ferrodo.

Currently using EBC reds which have completely eaten my standard disks in the few months I have had them.

What discs, pads, costs, etc (if known)?

Do you know if we have 2 or 4 pot
brakes on the front on Dec98 models ?

+I had EBC Grooved disks and green pads on my 240bhp Rover 620.
Heavy car and heavy driving. Material came completely away from backing plate within 2 weeks and disk was ruined. Had it all replaced under warranty and wore them away on both sides (dusty and squeely as hell) within another 10 weeks (3000 miles). Put the old pads back on(Rover) and the dust, squeeling, etc all stopped. I do not like EBC..!!

Cheers..

Exclamation

Do not use the Mintex 1144 as they are a real danger, might as well brake like fred flintstone does and use you heels, trust me they are a waste of money. I am gonna go and get me some Ferrodo DS2500 like the others, wish i had read this lot before i bought mine.

Huge improvement over the std pads and discs.

Right.

Went from MY99 standard setup to EBC Turbogroove discs and Greenstuff pads as recommended by Tyres Northampton Although they were better than standard, the disc's were warped by light braking on the way home. Went back, replaced, same happened yet again Went back this time got Turbogroove fitted with Redstuff. Hooray discs didn't warp but The setup was absolutely dire, small dust yeah, but they didn't work at all from cold and when hot faded far too easily so on the whole the stopping power was non-existent, the factory setup was FAR better. Then, to add insult to injury, they lasted 3.5k miles max Can't remember cost as had braided hoses and 5.1 at same time, suffice to say you get what you pay for an EBC are CHEAP.......

Now running DS2500 on the Turbogroove discs, these pads are much MUCH better and work very well indeed, only trouble again is the EBC weakest link - the discs warped Gonna wear them out and go for the TSL Group N most likely.

Hope that helps!

Ok my 2 pence worth.

Standard disk all round.

Pagid 'Blues' RS 42 Pads on the front and standard OE type on rear.

Verdict - Big improvement over standards even with just the Pagid blues on the front.

Was suggested by Alyn from AS Performance (See previous thread).
He supplied the blues for £135 standard rears for £35 and the whole lot turned up before 8 am the following day. Cheers mate!!

Well as brun posted a pic of my wheels, tyres and brakes on page 1 of this thread I may as well own up.

MY98 UK Wagon with ex-P1 4 pot calipers and Godspeed 335mm disks, Mintex 1144 pads, Goodridge s/s braided hoses and castrol SRF fluid.

Stopping power and fade resistance (only tried on road) are awesome!

It must be said though that the car can feel unbalanced during maximum braking, I am just about to fit 1144 pads at the rear to help address this and then get round to fitting the Eibach springs that have been in my shed for 3 months!

Andrew...
