standard subaru disks crack
#1
both of these disks were measured with vernier calipers to be a shade over 23mm thick (the minimum is quoted as 22mm). these are from a wrx wagon my01 bugeye.
the cracks are extreme - one of them goes right down to the hub flange... so it is worth having a look to see if little cracks are forming on your disks.

Same thing happended on my old my99. A couple of weeks before at the service they said they will replace them at the next service because they where scored and had hairline cracks.
Few weeks later the car when to the dealers on the back of a AA truck.

Have you been running the car on the track? All of my std discs did this after 3 hrs of track use. Try a split disc and bell system....they can take more heat. Godspeed do low cost items which retain the original calipers. When I say "low cost" I mean about 450 quid for a pair, but it's far cheaper than an AP setup.

yes, the big cracks appeared as the car cooled down at the end of a trackday. It now has pagid n+ disks acquired from scoobysport in basildon.
Interesting that only the outer edge of the disk cracked.
- I suppose that it can cool down faster than the inside.
If you do have hairline cracks - they look like little spider clusters of tiny cracks in the middle of the braking surface - then get them changed if you are going to be doing anything aggressive.

Jeez, now that's a crack!!
The OEM discs on my own car were full of hairline cracks when I changed them 2 weeks ago, but they were down to 22mm, so needed doing anyway. Fitted the Pagid 8 groove disks and RS421 pads. What a difference!! And only cost me £295 all in. I'll be singing their praises for a while methinks...

Same thing with me, 99MY with 4pots, car was undrivable.
Dealer thought it was due to mintex pads running hotter than OE pads so no warranty.
Now have Hi-Spec full kit which is the cat's pyjamas!

I only had problems when switching from a std pad to Ferrodo's 2500. I totally agree that hotter pads will **** in normal discs...I'm gonna fit a home made cooling duct kit and see if I can run normal pads to extend disc life.

My rally car had the same problem, due to the compound of the brake pads. Too abrasive
Pagid and Mintex both have a variety of compounds available, and it's important to match to use and disc.
