Godspeed disk grabbing - is it warped?
#1
Hi guys
I've got the 335mm upgrade with the standard 4-pot calliper. The brakes have started squealing at the front (might be just the right) after about 7000 miles of medium driving (never hard). The squeal coincides with a grabbing which makes the car judder once per rotation. At high speed (60-70) I get quite a bad judder through the steering wheel - enough to make me nervous!
I can't see how it would have warped under the use I give it and I'm careful to avoid holding the pad in one place if I have braked even remotely hard.
Is there something I can easily check to find out what the problem is?
Thanks

Check the disk for signs of discolouration which would indicate a hot spot or pad deposits. You could try the bedding in procedure in order to clean the disk faces and re-distribute pad material evenly across the disks. I do this after the car has been used for commuting for a while - brings the performance back. Try 50% braking force from 30 - 10 a few times, then 50 - 10, then try 80% braking force from 70 - 10 and finally from 90 - 10 a few times.
Hopefully normal service will be resumed, if not contact Ian at Godspeed.
Chris.

As mentioned sounds like the pads have glazed a little, and then deposited some pad material in one place on the disc.
Giving them a bit of a work out can fix this.

If they are Mintex pads, they do not like easy use.
So, take them into the country and give them hell. Normal service should be resumed (especially if your discs are grooved!).

what is so bad about redstuff, i havent fitted them on my legacy but have used them on my peugeot 309 16v rally car with good results. I thought they would be an obvious choice!...maybe not!
I have mintex 1155 in my car at the mo and am not that impresed with them, i'll try the pagids i have discovered lurking in my garage!

i use ebc yellow stuff
and before you say they need to warm up for road use well the first time i used them was on track which got some heat into them and was able to bed them
so done 2.5 track days 15000 miles and there is still life in them
they work very well on track and the road to me highly reccommended
