AP discs, where from?
#1
Hi,
can anyone recommend where to get replacement AP discs for the official AP kit? Just discs, no bells needed. Not urgent but will be needed in the next couple of months, track use dependant.

Try ScoobyMania. About £400, I think. Best get a new set of mounting bolts/nuts but if this is the first time you've done this they'll prolly be okay to use again (self-locking nuts). Torque them to 10.5ft/lbs.
There's also a list of distributers on www.apracing.com
Cheers,
Richard.

Cheers Richard, top man once again, though I think I'll do some phoning around at that sort of price. Agree on the bolt bit, it is the first time but I think I'll get new anyway...my torque wrench doesn't go down that ickle tho I've only got big boys and very big boys ones
Thanks again,
Al

Looking on the AP site it says "min worn" 27 mm for grooved 304mm discs that start at 28 mm. Am I reading this correctly that you can only wear 1 mm of the disc since the set I have bought second hand are 24.5 mm thick. The drilled discs which had been skimmed seem to have warped very quickly (steering wheel visibly judders when you get them hot) and also seem quite thin. It is whether to bother fitting the grooved set at this thickness or whether the lot are just fit for the bin - the grooves are obliterated from skimming of these as well. No point in doing the job twice if they are useless but also don't want to throw up to £400 away if not needed.
Can anyone confirm if the allen key you require is 7/16 to change the discs, and also what other size keys I will need for the job (10mm for the mounting bracket?)
How do you set the shims properly?

Hi John. YHM but APR say 1.5mm wear is max. ie 28mm discs at 26.5mm are scrap. Discs are consumable items
With new discs and pads, it is surprising how braking performance and feel is improved. More heat-soak from the discs/pads and less piston extenstion from the calipers
Cheers,
Richard.

you kept this secret john!
demon tweeks do various AP discs, I expect DT prices to be high.
Scoobysport also supply AP discs
They should be easy to replace.

Hi-Spec couldn't give me a price. Questmead quoted £364 and about three weeks delivery. My second hand AP kit will end up £1100 to get working to new spec. Should have bought new.

Right,
john, It seems that TAS www.tas.uk.com do Bremsport discs.
Cast, curved vane, 304 x 28mm 118.99 +vat each both left and right hand available, plus other sizes.
"Designed to fit other popular makes of racing brakes"
SO I think you should be able to run these, I would estimate the quality to be good, as they supply to motorsport etc.
Worth asking I think, can't be worse than what you have.

Having picked up my new Pagid discs / pads today, I think I spotted these on the shelf in the storeroom. Certainly they were in the section containing all AP brake parts.
The place is Performance Braking in Monmouth, 01600 713117, they're a supplier of Pagid discs / pads, AP, Mintex etc. I've just picked up the same 8 groove discs as advertised elsewhere but for £50 less, so I'm happy. They've been *incredibly* helpful.
HTH.
